Pros:
+ Beds have good, solid mattresses, very comfortable
+ friendly, helpful staff - on the first night we were given a room (for 2) on which the door's lock didn't work and the heating was faulty (this was december, so heating was important). We asked for another room and were transferred immediately to a 4-bed room which we were given private use of (as I had reserved a private room).
+ the included breakfast tastes good and plenty of choice of typical european breakfast food - while on the weekends it's very busy, during the week you normally can get straight to the food
Neutral - the showers in the rooms are nice and hot but the shower head is non-removable and high up on the wall - can be a bit annoying to wash some parts of yourself ;)
Cons:
- far from the centre and most attractions - we hoofed it on most days, although this takes about an hour to the main train station, for example. You can take the tram, or the train from the small Muiderpoort station which is 10/15 mins walk away from the hostel.
- very busy on the weekend/friday/saturday night - queues for breakfast, people walking around making noise at night - during the week it's fine
- if your room is near one of the firedoors people are walking in and out all night and letting the door slam, so earplugs are needed (on the week days this was less of a problem)
- the floors in the rooms have no carpet so can be cold / uncosy
