“"Difficult to find"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

This hotel is really cool with groovy decorations. The rooms were very clean and service excellent. Qbic hotel is quite a distance from Amsterdam central but we caught the subway quite cheaply. I got a great price for two nights through trip advisor emails so it was worth staying on the outskirts of city and using subway into town. We spent a good 15 min on arrival trying to find the hotel but people were really friendly and willing to help. It was surprising the people in the area that didn't know the building had a hotel in it. (It is a huge building with a lot of offices in it)

Room Tip: When you get off the subway turn right and when you come out from underground to daylight it is the...

“Wasnt as impressed as i thought i would be!”

for my partners birthday i thought id suprise him with a weekend away! Amsterdam was a place to go on the list & we have previoulsy looked at lots of hotels. However the groovy beds, and decorations really caught my eye in the pictures for this one! Very funky. Apart from the disaster of getting there due to flights cancelled (snow was mad), getting transferred onto the next day, & then arriving to the hotel to find out my reservation had been cancelled! the weekend away couldnt have started any worse!! I had already called the hotel as soon as i knew my flight was cancelled to let them know i would arrive the next day sometime in the morning! Ok we got there at midday... afterall the trains were also delayed, a very unhelpful lady sent us to amsterdam central where we then ended up paying for £45 for a cab!!! Got completly ripped off! (costs 7 euros on a tram for 24hours!!!) It was a disaster!!!! Anyway.. I werent to happy that my reservation has been cancelled when afterall i have paid in full, & i had called them! Luckily they managed to reinstate my booking. Working in a hotel myself dealing with reservations i certainly would give someone some time to arrive when they have never been to somewhere before, & certainly in snowy conditions!!! We was on 3rd floor, i did request a quiet room and this was right at the end of the corridoor which was spot on. When we walked in the first thing i noticed was a huge black skid mark across the laminated floors...could have been scrubbed away. (i know fussy right) Well even fussier..... getting into bed i discover a nice big whole in the sheets... so i can see the matress! im not being funny but i know for sure someone would have noticed it when they made the bed, so why not change the sheet ? I then smell a really disgusting smell!!! It was coming from my bed covers, it smelt like someones sweaty pit had been on the bed and either the sheets & cover hadnt been changed or it had soaked right through to the duvet cover!! It was grose!! however we found solutions and didnt stay in the room all the time!! Small things really make all the difference! The wallpaper looked as if it was stuck back up with bluetack too. Peeling down in the corners. I loved the style of the room, the plastic stools, red chair, bed was comfortable (2 singles-kept waking up stuck in the middle!) showers were hotter in the evening and colder in the morning, bathroom style was good & clean. Staff -We got directions of a man who was really helpful, knew tram times, where to go, gave us a map! Brilliant service! Housekeepers gave fresh towels which was nice. Didnt have breakfast, but did munch out a few times on the vending machines! Great idea when your in amsterdam! Travel- We got the tram everywhere in the end! literally up some stairs from the hotel, & just on the road side.. Takes 20 mins i would say to get to central. We ended up going to steinslein (something along these lines) a few times where we found some nice shops, people skating on the rivers! & a fantastic singer who preformed lots in the square where the tram stops! A nice place to chill out! Dam isnt to bad, seems slightly ruffer then the first place i mentioned. The hotel is now situated next to a small supermarket which must be new!! Sells some lush waffles!!!! When leaving to go back to the airport get the train! its only one stop, and a reasonable price! Would love to come back to amsterdam, would love to go back to the hotel if the rooms were at a better standard! Its a shame because the interior is so nice!! just needs looking after!!!!

Room Tip: Air con. is always on in the rooms like others have mentioned. It can get cold!! Trick- leave the sh...

“VERY CHEAP LOVELY ROOMS”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We arrived early on my birthday sunday morning, the man asked for my details to chek our reservation and I wasnt even given so much as a welcome or a Happy Birthday! We was told check in wasnt until anytime after 11, however, we wasnt invited to sit down in the hotel or given any friendly information about the area and where we could go meanwhile so we asked to leave our bags there so we could explore the city. We was told to just leave our bags in the lobby which i felt a bit dodgy about as they wasnt locked away.

It is about 3 minutes from Amsterdam Zuid station where there is a nice Burger King and two small Albert Heijn stores (supermarkets) where the staff are very helpful and give you as much help as you need. It also takes about 15 minutes by train to get to Amsterdam Central or 10 minutes by tram. You can buy a 24hour travel card for 7euros.

When we came back to check into the hotel we was handed our keys and given directions to our room which was on the first floor. When we got into the hotel room there was no electric, when I asked the man at reception why this was, he told me you had to put your key into the electric device next to the door, which would of been helpful if he told me this before we got to our room. The Tv was not in the middle of the bed like shown in the pictures, it was at then end of the bed with lots of visible wires. The stools at the end of the bed are nearly impossible to sit on properly as they are so small! The lights are absolutely brilliant and the wallpaper was amazing aswell, it reacted with the neon lights coming from the bed! I have no complaints about the lights as they just fascinated me! The shower was absolutely lovely aswell, I didnt want to get out of it! Also the matress is one of those mould matressess wich was very very comfy!

On two occasions when me and my friend were sleeping, the cleaners just came into our rooms, said something in dutch and walked back out, which was VERY creepy! When i got out of bed to open the door, I asked the man if he came in and he said yes and that he was room service? A knock on the door would of been much appreciated?

The vending machine have a wide range of chocolates and drinks, they also sell pot noodle like things for 3euruos but as we didnt have kettles in our room, we had to PAY 1.50 to use hot water, which wasnt hot enough so we then had to use the microwave. We done this on two occasions, and on the second occasion the member of staff who was in the lobby on the computer complained at me for using the microwave and making the lobby smell of burning? NO FOOD WAS BURNT IT JUST SMELT LIKE A CHICKEN POT NOODLE!

The pillows are so flat that I had to ask for spare ones, which i was told the hotel didnt have (which must of been a lie, which hotel doesnt have spare pillows?). I was offered a bundle of towels to place under my pillow instead which was not useful at all! The staff look at you like you are on drugs when you speak to them! Especially the main man that was at the reception.

We was not told about any of the services the hotel provide eg. breakfast. We just had to look at posters around the hotel and figure out for ourselves. Our key cards kepty breaking and we kept getting given new ones! There is no smoking area and no seats outside!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the ground floor if you are a smoker

“Great price, no fuss, good location with very easy access to city centre & airport”

I booked this hotel for our 4 day trip to Amsterdam and it is pretty much as described in the title above, really.

The staff were friendly and happy to help when you needed it.

The room was simple but a good size, but unless you are travelling with someone you know very well, you may want to consider another hotel as the lack of a door to the bathroom could be an issue.

The mood lighting can take a few minutes to master and like most other hotels, the bathroom lighting is not ideal for putting on your make up.

There is a full length mirror but bizarrely it is located on a wall right next to the bed, so not exactly great for us girls who would like to see a whole outfit rather than just to the knees.

Sometimes I wish hotels would consult women more when designing an hotel room. We just really want a full-length mirror and decent lighting for doing your make up! Oh, and a plug socket close to a mirror for plugging in your hairdryer. But the Qbic did get the plug in the right location, though with a plug right by the mirror in the bathroom, even if the mirror was situated a little bit high up - I am 5'1". :)

A couple of bad points: rooms at the back seem to overlook the WTC bin area and can get noisy in the early hours - we were on the 2nd floor; the room got very warm at times and you can't control the aircon and the window did not open; the room got no natural light due to the location overlooking the enclosed bin area.

Although it is located quite a distance out of town, the no. 5 tram which runs every 8 minutes or so takes you straight in in about 10-15 mins depending where you need to be. From the airport, the hotel is one stop on the train. If you need to get back to the hotel late at night, a txi costs between 13-20 euro.

Overall, a good hotel that offers something a little different with little fuss and contributed to a great weekend.

If you like live music, try Bourbon Street Amsterdam - great Saturday night!
Good pizzas at Piccolinos in the centre. The Old Sailor pub in the Red Light District is also good fun and one of the few good places that stay open late on a Sunday night.

Room Tip: Request room on higher floor as may be quieter. If getting the tram into town, there is no need to...

“Great price for great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I needed a place to stay in order to be at an early meeting the next day. This hotel is located inside the Amsterdam WTC, which is a business district. This means it's not exactly a bubbly location at night, but brilliant if you have to connect to a train or subway (both 1 minute away), or the airport (7 minutes away).
The room was larger than I
expected, and looked pretty much like the pictures. A 'bed and bathroom' combination thing with funky lighting and flatscreen. two bar stools and a lounger. Not much else, but I didn't need more.

The room could have been cleaned a bit better, although it did not bother me too much. The usable surface was clean, and the sheets and towels were absolutely spotless. Due to the design bed, there are some edges and corners collecting dust, the overall impression would be even better if more attention would be paid there.

Pro: fantastic location for business district, public transport and airport for a great price.
Funky room with super bed
Quite nice lobby for reading a book or having breakfast
Free (fast) wifi

Con: location quite deserted at night
Room a bit empty, not very suitable for romantic get-aways
Room was a bit dusty
