A friend and I travelled back from amsterdam yesterday and stayed here. I have to say we had a fantastic stay and couldn't complain about the Hotel Ramenas one bit. After reading the reviews on here we were expecting an absolute dump, and we were nicely surprised. We paid about 230 euros for both of us to stay here for 5 days, including breakfast.
The gentleman in reception was very inviting and helpful and could speak perfect english. Gave us alot of advice on trams/trains/best places to visit. We took his advice and ventured around the whole of amsterdam.
The rooms are basic, but if your spending a shed load of time in your hotel room when in Amsterdam then you're definitely doing something wrong!!! Beds were clean and comfy, wooden floor was spotless, clean towels every day, lovely shower, 2 large mirrors, television, lots of leaflets and info booklets available, no noise, bar/cafe downstairs, free wi-fi. Staircase is narrow but we managed to carry 2 large hand luggage bags and a 20kg case up them in one go, and ALL STAIRCASES are narrow in Amsterdam.
If you're going to Amsterdam and looking for somewhere cheap to get your head down with friendly staff and in a great location then this is the place!!!!! 10 minute walk to central station (when you know where you're going) and a perfect distance from bars/restaurants/cafes/amazing shopping and coffee shops. Also surrounded by great little boutique shops, a supermarket, pubs and across the road from a coffee company.
If you're expecting the ritz then this is not the place for you. But if you want to dump your bags, explore amsterdam and feel welcome when you make it back to the hotel, I DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY advise the Hotel Ramenas.
