“Low budget option for partying with friends”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

I've booked the "hotel" kind of last minute, without looking at the reviews. After I read some of them (one day before traveling) I was a bit scared as everyone was saying it's a total disaster ... However, I didn't find it so extremley bad, as some people are saying. We were a group of 4 students, and have been given a room with 4 beds (slightly small, but we didn't spend a lot of time in there anyway). It was not super-clean, but you could see thet they've put some effort into cleaning it after previous guests. The bedsheets were old, but washed, and they've given us some tovels as well. The bathroom has a nice toilet, the only bad thing is the shower, because the whole bathroom gets wet when using it. The stuff were very friendley and helpful - they asked almost every day if we need enything and they let us use the internet at the reception desk. The steps are quite steep, but I guess so is the case everywhere in Amsterdam's city centre. We didn't see any bugs or mice or some other discusting stuff, and the location is perfect. So if you are going to Amsterdam to party with some friends, want to have a cheap private room in a nice area (city centre, lively nightlife) and are not too pickey, it's ok. If you are very sensible, bring your own bedsheet and a tovel, and you'll be just fine.

“Avoid it!!”

The hotel is in a nice place but it doesn't worth the price you pay! The room are very small and dirty. You wonder when was the last time they washed the sheets... It was written that we'll have a private bathroom but we finally had to share it with the room next door!! Just avoid it!!!

“A place to dump your bags - nothing more!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2010

This hotel is in an excellent location, just up the road from the main tourist areas, that's about all that's good to say about it. It's not really a hotel, it's a kebab shop with a few rooms upstairs. We were told we'd get an on suite bathroom, what we got was a bathroom externally from the room, but assured that the other room on the floor was unoccupied and therefore the bathroom was ours! The bathroom was so bad that I went without a shower because I couldn't bare to use it, nor could my partner. The room was disgusting but to be honest I wasn't too fussed because we were only there for one night and we literally dropped off our bags, went out and returned very late and very drunk and only ended up on top of the bed not in it! I did however notice how noisy it was outside!!! Overall, avoid it!

“Disgusting, overpriced hole, with rude smelly staff who will rip you off”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2009

Unfortunately, I booked this place quickly (without checking other reviews) on the premise of it having a pretty good location and not being very expensive. I wish I had read the other reviews because it was much worse than stated. Certainly the worst place I have ever stayed in, and I normally stay in very budget accommodation when not on business. The place is above a greasy kebab style restaurant, has a perilously steep and dirty staircase to the room, which turned out to be very small (with only 2 beds) as opposed to the 4 we expected on paying for a family room. The sheets, carpets, curtains etc were filthy, the lights did not work, the shower was a hole in the floor next to the toilet.
We were also ripped off, by the very rude and inconsiderate staff who demanded cash upfront (claiming that the card machine did not work - an obvious tax/refund dodge).
We cut our losses and left after 1 of the 3 nights due to the rats and rudeness having overpaid in cash for the 1st night. The place is a disgusting hole and I can't stress enough that you definitely should never stay here.

“Avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2009

I'm used to low-budget hotels and hostels, and I am quite experienced with low-end hotels. However, this place pushed well past the boundary of low-budget to the sh**-hole category. Avoid this place at all costs. Filthy, crappy rooms. Find another budget option, or spend a little more.
