“it would be better if not this bathroom”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Location is great - that's the main advantage.
We arrived around 8pm - at this time the reception is closed. We paid with cash to some man running a nearby restaurant, without any bill of sale (we got it the next day) and he gave us a key.
Room for 4 people (nr 25, last floor (3rd?), steep staircase, for wi-fi range go 1 floor down) - quite ok for hostel (no complains about the room). It's big enough to put 4 beds, table, 2 chairs and almost-without-shelves wardrobe.
But the bathroom, which is situated in the room (plus for that) - very poor. Water didn't run down in both sink and shower. It's usable, but needs renovation for sure.
To sup up, if you don't care about a condition of the place where you take shower, it's budget type, great located hostel. But I wouldn't recommend it for staying. There are other cheap hostels in the centre of Amsterdam, I hope they are better.

Room Tip: Rooms on the last floor (3rd?) are outside the wi-fi range.

“Anne Frank lived in similar accommodation but probably with a better shower”

Great location near the centre of Amsterdam, within walking distance of most of the major sights.

This place is basic, if Tesco supplied cheap saver hotel rooms this would be it. Don't bring the wife or girlfriend here, this is one for the lads only. The room itself is OK, clean enough, four beds crammed into one room. The TV barely worked, but you don't come to Amsterdam to watch TV do you?

The Egyptian at reception was friendly, but insisted on being paid in cash. He would not take a credit card.

The bathroom was a bit dodgy, could have had a shower curtain to stop the water getting everywhere. Didn't see any bugs though. On the plus side we didn't pay Hyatt Regency prices, and to be fair this isn't the Hyatt Regency.

“Not fit for a DoG!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2011

Hotel was overbooked so they put us in a basement room which seemed like a spare room for their own use. There were holes in the walls, stains all over the ceiling, carpet ripped & torn all over, extremely noisey boiler that kept us awake at night. The beds were just matresses laid on the floor. The room was disgusting but the whole city was booked out so we'd no choice but to stay there. And they wouldn't give us a discount on the room as it was larger than the room we had originally booked. overall the room was a disgrace!! I Would never stay again.....

also the toilet was a seperate room and filthy too so none of us had showered for the whole weekend there!

“Low budget option for partying with friends”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

I've booked the "hotel" kind of last minute, without looking at the reviews. After I read some of them (one day before traveling) I was a bit scared as everyone was saying it's a total disaster ... However, I didn't find it so extremley bad, as some people are saying. We were a group of 4 students, and have been given a room with 4 beds (slightly small, but we didn't spend a lot of time in there anyway). It was not super-clean, but you could see thet they've put some effort into cleaning it after previous guests. The bedsheets were old, but washed, and they've given us some tovels as well. The bathroom has a nice toilet, the only bad thing is the shower, because the whole bathroom gets wet when using it. The stuff were very friendley and helpful - they asked almost every day if we need enything and they let us use the internet at the reception desk. The steps are quite steep, but I guess so is the case everywhere in Amsterdam's city centre. We didn't see any bugs or mice or some other discusting stuff, and the location is perfect. So if you are going to Amsterdam to party with some friends, want to have a cheap private room in a nice area (city centre, lively nightlife) and are not too pickey, it's ok. If you are very sensible, bring your own bedsheet and a tovel, and you'll be just fine.

“Avoid it!!”

The hotel is in a nice place but it doesn't worth the price you pay! The room are very small and dirty. You wonder when was the last time they washed the sheets... It was written that we'll have a private bathroom but we finally had to share it with the room next door!! Just avoid it!!!
