Wow. If your into Art Deco this hotel is a must. Its like a set from Poirot. Amazing to find a building that externally and internally has retained so much of its original charm, absolutely beautiful. Bedrooms well equipped, if a little small. Beds and bathrooms to die for. Free mini bar in room, restocked each day. Cotton sheets and great towels. Rituals bath products. Definate 5 star. Service levels very good, concierge service excellant. Appears to have excellant health facilities, although did not use them personally. Breakfast very good, but pricey, as is Amsterdam in general. Did not dine in restaurant in evening, menu looked good, but dining room empty. Great central location, close to station, but not noisy at all. Well worth, a try.

Fantastic hotel full of history ,character and charm.We were made welcome throughout our stay and found the staff warm and helpful.As it was my husband's birthday we were given an upgrade which really helped make the occasion special ,not to mention the card and chocolates, a really nice gesture!!! The room was large and comfortable with great views of the canal.Breakfast was extensive and choices varied.This was our first time in Amsterdam and the hotel enhanced our experience.We would thoroughly recommend it and look forward to returning.

Return trip after proposing to my beautiful wife, the hotel never fails to amaze in stunning architecture, attentitiveness of staff and convenient location.
A true Jewel amongst amsterdams rich diamond heritage !

My wife and I stayed at this fabulous hotel in January 2011 and have just paid a return visit. Amsterdam, as ever, was brilliant; cold and snowy but plenty of different places to shelter. We had booked a Superior Deluxe Room, without needing to ask we were upgraded to a Junior Suite which was fantastic. Because of the cold weather and despite the slow service we had in the restaurant last year, we ate in the Hotel's restaurant. We were not surprised by the quality of food, as it was up to its usual standard, neither we were surprised about the service, which has never been as good as it could be. Last year we had some very long sittings due to the slow service. This year the service was quicker but silly, small mistakes let down the overall experience; issues like waiters getting in the way, pouring drinks et cetera, whilst eating and getting a roll at random times throughout the meal. As I said last year; if you can put up with these annoyances (a couple of days training would sort these issues - Amrath) the restaurant is well worth a visit. Some reviewers have questioned the 5* status of the Grand Amrath. I wouldn't. This rates up with the best hotels in Amsterdam.
