“Good location and poor facilities”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I stayed as part of a group of 6 last weekend. The rooms are basic, no tea or coffee making facilities (and was charged 2 to 2.50 euros in the hotel reception for a hot drink out of a vending type machine, even at breakfast!), there was no tv control, there was no hanging facilities for clothes, not a wardrobe or hook in sight! The room was draughty and the walls paper thin. The steps leading into the hotel are steep and narrow in depth and it was snowy and icy at the weekend and no one had tried to clear or salt the steps to make them easier to access. The very basic continental breakfast was very bleak and served up in what was part of the main reception, with just a few tables for all guest. Luckily enough there is a lift in the hotel because the stairs are very steep and not the easiest to walk up and down. My friends had to move rooms because their heating did not work properly and the attitude of staff was quite lapse. Another of our party had a mouse in the room, but could only be offered the room with no heating that our other friends had just vacated as all other rooms had guests in and was told that it was because they had a packet of sweets in their room that they had mice! There was no information packs in the hotel with regards to how to log on to wifi or even what number to dial if you wanted reception or even what time breakfast was, you had to keep on asking for everything!!! There was no info regarding things like fire escapes in the room. I would never stay in a Quentin hotel again. I have stayed in much better hotels and have paid less than the £ 90 plus a night that they charged for our room, from 4star hotels to travelodges!!!! If you dont care where you lay your head and want to be right in the middle of the leidsepleine than this if for you.

Room Tip: Ask for specific rooms, perhaps the nicer ones shown on hotel website

I stayed at Quentin for 5 nights and had great fun interacting with all the staff. Excellent location, nice rooms and service. Good breakfast and a complete value for money deal.

Room Tip: Ask for a double executive room and do not forget to get free wifi in your deal

“Great location, clean and helpful staff... All you need for Amsterdam!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

A great, safe hotel in the heart of Amsterdam, overlooking the beautiful canal- just bars, restaurants and cafe's around the corner. A short, cheap tram ride to the famous Red Light District & museums.

The 24 hour reception service with helpful staff who will provide all you need for your stay.

Clean, spacious rooms with bathrooms which easily accommodate 3 adults.

There was a party of 5 women who went for a birthday weekend and had the best weekend EVER!!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front over look the lovely canal.. Beautiful views when the sun shines over the canal i...

“New Years 2012- Spent 5 days there and loved it”

This is a solid five star of the three star hotels. Some rooms have full baths so not all are shared. Don’t know why it lists the bathrooms as shared. This hotel is for economy travelers who do not plan to spend much time at the hotel. I travel in the states and Jamaica and this really did remind me of a budget Jamaican hotel. I was nice, clean and the staff was helpful. If you’re familiar with a large Baltimore Row house then this is the exact duplicate.

On my birthday, the housekeeper even set my bed up like a cruise ship bed. She was incredibly friendly and went out of her way to get me towels, empty the trash and keep my space functioning well. Tipping, as in Jamaica, does help a lot.

The architecture is incredible. Many people today want big, everything here is small but very well maintained. The stairs are wooden and are really old (150 years+). This hotel has a 70s remodel but the interior is exceptional, not new. The place is very clean and the staff is excellent. I found the place worth the money and thought if I came back I would stay there again. Oh with that said, the elevator sometimes goes out but they really do try to get it working again and the location is a must. It really is in the heart of a lot. The other reviews (which I read) did this place no justice. I mean I was really scared from reading them. This place was wonderful and it is a traveler’s hotel.

I have to tell you, if you like architecture please do stay there before someone modernizes this gem of a building. Oh, don't let the other reviews steer you wrong the location is a home run.

“No problems whatsoever!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Just came back from a 3 night stay at the Quentin and we have no complaints at all. The lift worked the whole time we were there which is good as we did tackle the stairs on one occasion to the 4th floor and lets just say we were knackered!!! It seems as though our room had just been renovated as carpet was new, we didnt have the best of views from our window but we were not in the room that much. The location is good as it is right on the Liedseplein but we spent a lot of our time up by the Red Light/Dam Square and it is quite a walk, ok if the weather is good but you can always jump on the tram. We did not have any breakfast at the hotel so cannot really comment on that. Hotel staff were very friendly and always keen to assist. If you are looking for a nice basic hotel in a good location then this is the place to go. We would go back here and also recommend to friends:)

Room Tip: We stayed in 409, this had no view from window so dont choose this if you like a view.
