“Good Conference Hotel but attention to detail needs improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

A really nice and well apointed conference hotel. But it is outside of the tourist areas so not recommended for visitors to Amsterdam seeking easy access to the museums and partty zones.

It is right next to the cruise port and 500 meters (easy walk) to the central Station so very convenient for those two places.

Attention to detail was poor: wifi / internet connection which I had paid extra for was broken three of the five times I tried to use it, desk lamp had a broken bulb when I entered room, coffee maker did not function well and TV remote was out of batteries. So either the cleaning staff are told not to do more than clean or there is a management problem. When all of these issues were pointed out to the front desk they did attempt to solve them all - but wifi was out for 2 of the 3 days I was there and the repairs took two calls (one in the morning and again in the afternoon when the repairs were not done) to get remedied.

On the plus side as other reviewers have noted the staff have a very good attitude, the view from the rooms is great, and the conference services welll executed.

“Clean and comfortable but a bit jaded.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

My wife and I stayed in the Movenpick from the 6/2/12 to 10/2/12. We booked an Executive Room because we like the complimentary beer and soft drinks in the room, free internet access (512kb not wireless in the room) and the access to the Executive lounge which served hot/cold snacks and free wine, beer and soft drinks every evening between 5pm and 7pm. The hotel is 20 minutes walk from the central station and runs a free shuttle bus between 7am and 7pm on the half hour. The route 26 tram runs past the hotel every five minutes and the trip to the central hotel takes 5 minutes.
On arrival the greeting was warm and even though we were early, check in is 3pm, staff went to great lengths to find a room for us. The first Executive suite we were offered was small and a bit tatty. No bath. We pointed this out to the concierge who had brought our bags up and he immediately phoned our concerns to reception. we were then offered a free upgrade to a junior suite on the same floor (19th) This was bigger, 3 rooms, with a bath and shower but still a bit jaded/tatty. Very clean.
I am type 2 diabetic so I can't drink regular beer and when we mentioned this to the guest services they immediately changed the beer in the fridge to complementary Pilsner which I can drink.
The only meal we ate in the hotel was breakfast which is an extensive buffet from served until 10.30am. Unfortunately the hot food was usually only lukewarm and daily we had to ask for it to be reheated or cooked fresh. This was not to much trouble for the staff, they were happy to oblige.
The Executive lounge is a bit small but the staff were excellent. On Monday and Tuesday we could not access the internet on their desktop computers. After a couple of attempts we managed to connect via the hotels wireless network but access is only free for 24 hours.
The daily hot/cold snacks in the Executive Lounge were excellent and included palma ham, goats cheese, caviare, smoked fish, chicken, prawns and fruit. When my wife expressed a preference for pinot grigio wine it was provided as was a plentiful supply of pilsner beer.
Staff have a friendly 'can do' attitude and nothing is to much trouble for them. The concierge desk is particularly good.
The executive rooms and junior suites have a Nespresso Machine but these don't impress me much.
Views from our window on the 19th floor were to the east and day and night were awesome.
Overall we thought the hotel was a little expensive but compared with others we have stayed at in Amsterdam we rate it as very good.

Room Tip: The East side of the hotel has the best views.

Dear travellers from Newtown, NI

Thank you for the good review following your stay in our hotel. It seems we had indeed lukewarm food at the breakfast buffet, rest assured this was communicated to our chef! Luckily all your requests were met by our staff, which fills me with joy.

No all our rooms have bathtubs, some have indeed showers, it is a question of preference and we are happy to oblige with either one of them upon availability.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again and I would be pleased to discuss with you in person about what you mean by 'tatty' and why you thought our rooms were that.

Kind regards,

The Hotel Manager

“decent amsterdam hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

stayed for 5 nights last week,on 14th floor, verygood business hotel albeit its out of the way about a mile walk from central station.parking on site is 45 euros per night so be aware.

bathrooms are large and have small amount of amenities ie soap, beds are comfortable and there is a non stocked refrigerator in your room, irons are in the room along with hairdryers.
breakfast is great buffet style with all the usual offerings.
to be fair it wasnt memorable in any way but it is a decent business 4 star hotel that i wouldnt recommend if your going for a short break as it requires taxis to get anywhere and at a minimum 7.50 euros per ride it does add up on your trip and better to stay nearer to the station or dam sq.

Room Tip: rooms ending in 27 are the farthest from the lifts so no noise at all

“Very modern hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The hotel is extremely modern which almost didn't seem quite right for the charm of Amsterdam itself. If I had to sum up the atmosphere in one word, it would be sterile. It is very clean. The staff are helpful. Especially the Irish man who drove the shuttle. He gave us so much information and made us feel very welcome. It was nice having a refrigerator and also a coffee/tea service in the room. The location, coming in during the very cold weather, was not easy or intuitive. It was especially difficult with baggage. The bathroom is supposed to be modern I suppose, but the bathroom door is designed not to close, so if you are at all modest, this could be uncomfortable.

Dear rae,

Thank you for your honest opinion, to me it seems it was rather a nice stay, except reaching us during the very cold days we have had here. We take your comment into account, as we do with all, regarding the toilet doors.

Best regards and please do come back!

“wonderful Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Spent our weekend in Amsterdam staying at Moenenpick Hotel the service at this hotel was excellent. Partucularly the concierge who went out of there way to help us with a transport problem. (none of there doing). Hotel was excellent we were on the 18th floor with brilliant views. Visited Ann Frank's house, tour on the canal, visited cheese making and clog making and windmills. All this in two days. Worth a stay.

Room Tip: Easy to get from Airport to Amsterdam dont use transfers a needless expence.
