My wife and I stayed in the Movenpick from the 6/2/12 to 10/2/12. We booked an Executive Room because we like the complimentary beer and soft drinks in the room, free internet access (512kb not wireless in the room) and the access to the Executive lounge which served hot/cold snacks and free wine, beer and soft drinks every evening between 5pm and 7pm. The hotel is 20 minutes walk from the central station and runs a free shuttle bus between 7am and 7pm on the half hour. The route 26 tram runs past the hotel every five minutes and the trip to the central hotel takes 5 minutes.
On arrival the greeting was warm and even though we were early, check in is 3pm, staff went to great lengths to find a room for us. The first Executive suite we were offered was small and a bit tatty. No bath. We pointed this out to the concierge who had brought our bags up and he immediately phoned our concerns to reception. we were then offered a free upgrade to a junior suite on the same floor (19th) This was bigger, 3 rooms, with a bath and shower but still a bit jaded/tatty. Very clean.
I am type 2 diabetic so I can't drink regular beer and when we mentioned this to the guest services they immediately changed the beer in the fridge to complementary Pilsner which I can drink.
The only meal we ate in the hotel was breakfast which is an extensive buffet from served until 10.30am. Unfortunately the hot food was usually only lukewarm and daily we had to ask for it to be reheated or cooked fresh. This was not to much trouble for the staff, they were happy to oblige.
The Executive lounge is a bit small but the staff were excellent. On Monday and Tuesday we could not access the internet on their desktop computers. After a couple of attempts we managed to connect via the hotels wireless network but access is only free for 24 hours.
The daily hot/cold snacks in the Executive Lounge were excellent and included palma ham, goats cheese, caviare, smoked fish, chicken, prawns and fruit. When my wife expressed a preference for pinot grigio wine it was provided as was a plentiful supply of pilsner beer.
Staff have a friendly 'can do' attitude and nothing is to much trouble for them. The concierge desk is particularly good.
The executive rooms and junior suites have a Nespresso Machine but these don't impress me much.
Views from our window on the 19th floor were to the east and day and night were awesome.
Overall we thought the hotel was a little expensive but compared with others we have stayed at in Amsterdam we rate it as very good.
Room Tip: The East side of the hotel has the best views.

Dear travellers from Newtown, NI
Thank you for the good review following your stay in our hotel. It seems we had indeed lukewarm food at the breakfast buffet, rest assured this was communicated to our chef! Luckily all your requests were met by our staff, which fills me with joy.
No all our rooms have bathtubs, some have indeed showers, it is a question of preference and we are happy to oblige with either one of them upon availability.
We are looking forward to welcoming you again and I would be pleased to discuss with you in person about what you mean by 'tatty' and why you thought our rooms were that.
Kind regards,
The Hotel Manager
