My husband rented a room for a week in April. Actually, it turned out to be two rooms. There was a sitting room and a seperate bedroom and bath. Both rooms had windows that looked out over a serene park and on the otherside of the park was the Rikks Museum and the Van Gogh Museum. This was a perfect location near many parks, restaurants and tram stops. Just about everything is in walking distance. There was even a roof top desk that looked out on a canal. Very romantic at night.

I wanted to stay at a B&B on my most recent 4-day trip that I took to Amsterdam, so I chose the Blue Moon mainly based on the presentation of their website, including photos of the two suites. I have to say that the location worked out well for my mate and me. We were able to walk to the Van Gogh Museum, which was just blocks away, as well as to Leiden Square to partake in its many food, drink, and club offerings. We stayed in the Contemporary Suite, which is the suite facing the street. The suite was a good size and had a separate “sitting area”, which was a wonderful place to eat breakfast in the morning. The proprietor, Taufik, was simply wonderful, accommodating, thoughtful, and attentive -- we could not have asked for a better host. There is truth in the other reviews of this B&B, so I won’t repeat them here, but overall, I do recommend this B&B to any traveler, except those who have any physical disabilities/impairments or the elderly would have problems negotiating the very steep 2 flights of steps up to the Blue Moon suites.

I came to stay for four days in Amsterdam after many weeks of hard work in Africa. I was ready to relax and relax I did! The Blue Moon is difficult to find from the street (there's only a very small plaque above the doorbell - no sign) and there's not much in the way of common space -- just a narrow set of stairways. But the room itself was gorgeous! Beautifully decorated, with windows facing the canals and letting in lots of light. The bathroom was also beautiful although no toiletries were included so I had to go out and buy my own shampoo, conditioner and body wash (a minor annoyance, but one that I think would be worth addressing). Breakfast was served in my room each morning and was delicious -- croissants, jam, fruit, yogurt, meats and cheeses. I had a friend come in from a nearby down in Holland and stay with me during two of my four nights, and once the inkeeper realized this, he brought extra breakfast for my friend as well. Taufik, the inkeeeper was very attentive and patient when I had trouble paying him (my credit cards had been stolen and it took me a couple of days to get cash). This was very much appreciated! My one other negative comment is that, in four days, my room was never cleaned. My trash wasn't taken out, and my sheets and towels weren't replaced. Again, not a deal-breaker, but for such a nice place (and for the price), I would have liked to have the towels changed and trash emptied at least every other day. Still, overall a great location, beautiful room and definitely a spot that I would recommend.

We stayed here over the 4th of July holiday and were very happy with our decision. We had the room w/ the additional seating area (which is great when you have 2 people and one of them can't sleep) :-). Room was clean and had plenty of space (esp. by european standards). Location is perfect as it's in the museum district and close enough to walk (or bike) to everything you want, yet quiet and relaxing. The breakfast is ample and delicious. Typical European breakfast items. Taufik was very kind and gave us plenty of information regarding the city (+ 2 free canal tour tickets which were awesome). The stairs are.... well... we called them the death stairs, but again, typical for Amsterdam as most old buildings do not have lifts. If you are handicapped or cannot walk up/down long flights of stairs, I would opt for a more American hotel (or something w/ an elevator). Otherwise, it's worth the climb. We really had no issues and between that and biking everywhere, I think we exercised off all the delicious food we ate while on vacation.
