If you want bed bugs and mites as your pets on your bed, then this is your place. Get bitten all over your body, and stay awake to feed them. You will also stay awake the whole night listening to people chatting real loud and the music blaring non stop. The next thing you know, it's already morning and it's time for you to wake up to visit the places but you are too tired as you didn't have a wink of sleep listening to the noise as well as getting bitten by the bugs and mites in the room. Good luck if you ever stay there.

Stay away!! They are many other hostels around. Not worth a dime.

the rooms were dirty, under the bed there was dust and left over tic tacs from the previous visitors. the floors were alo very dirty.
the bed sheets had cigarette burns on them and the towels were also dirty ; one had blood on it, one had black staines and one was ripped.
the whole room was crooked, there were cracks on the ceiling and the window could not open and be closed properly.
we stayed in a room which had a "terrace" infront. it was so dirty and during the day the owners would open it so the whole floor was full of flies!
for breakfast we were greeted by flies and a weird smell.

i have just returned from 2 weeks stay at the veteran ,i must say i was a little bit worried after reading some of the reviews,sure the building is a little drab ,and the stairs are a killer but they are all like that in amsterdam ,it is the best value for money in amsterdam,on opening our door we were greeted by a very clean room ,and a million dollar view over the canals, our room was cleaned and sheets changed every second day,and they had a lovely breakfast ready till 10.30 am .
eric and his wife are a lovely host ,so dont be put off by bad reviews,
