“Leave your home to feel like at home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Everytime Im in NL I stay at my friends in Haarlem, but this time I was travelling with my sister and mom, so we wanted to avoid commuting to the city, and after reading several reviews I dropped an email to God&Wim. The reply came in no less than10 minutes and in about an hour (I had like a zillion of questions:) we made the final choice. Not only we got a discount, but Godxxx was nice enough to recommend a different room that would fit us best. He was so helpful that I wanted to express my gratitude and I called him and he was so nice and sweet that it made me convinced these guys dont use automatic replies and they really care for their guests. All the arrival info, introduction, meeting was as expected and we got accomodated in the superb Buddha Temple Room. All what is written in reviews is 100% true: attitude as if being a VIP guest, luscious breakfast and clean rooms. Since we really eat a lot (more like a slow bruch:) and then hit the city, we were pleased to have the chance to eat our breakfast quite late. I could go on and on praising this great place but you really get the best service! If you read in other reports that it is a bit pricy, well, you pay for the superb location, fantastic accomodation and amazing service, G&W are at your disposal non stop and the good thing is, they dont fake it:) The day we left, they waited for us, walked us out and waved until out of sight...really felt like leaving home. So we make sure we come back!!! :)

“I'll never stay anywhere else!”

This was my third trip to Amsterdam. I know first hand that accommodation there is hit or miss, and not cheap compared to many other European cities. I have been an avid traveller for almost 10 years, and I have never had a better experience at a hotel/B&B. First off, it was a short, easy 5 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal. From them moment we walked through the door, we were welcomed by Wimmo and Godwin with a delicious coffee and a run down of the city, complete with great suggestions and step by step directions to everywhere we wanted to go! Everything is within 10 minutes walking distance of this place, but it's still set apart on a quiet street. It doesn't get much better than that in my opinion!

The room was amazing! Amsterdam accommodation is known for its personality, but the attention to detail here is unsurpassed! Even on the third day of our stay, we were still noticing little things around the room that we hadn't before. It made the stay interesting. :) Additionally, the room was very spacious, especially by European standards. It was spotlessly clean, and the bed was very comfortable! It even came complete with a iPod dock on the night stand!

Breakfast was great! I liked the self-serve option, and especially that it was available until 11:30am. I'm not a morning person, so being able to wake up and go upstairs in my PJ's to get coffee and breakfast without having to talk to anyone was just fine with me! Wimmo and Godwin also happily allowed us to make full use of the kitchen, so we were able to save some money on the trip by preparing some of our own meals. The mini-fridge and coffee making facilities in the room also really helped on this front.

In conclusion, I will reiterate what I said in the title. I'll never stay anywhere else in Amsterdam again, because nothing can compare. I'm already planning a trip back in May, and I can't wait to stay in the Buddha room again!!

Room Tip: The Buddha room is great! It has a private ensuite, mini fridge, it's very spacious, and I didn...

“Believe the reviews!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Godwin welcomed us each with a drink and "lay of the land" intro, showed us to our spectacular room, and we were off! The room was about twice the size of a "normal" hotel room, with fridge and coffee pot. Breakfast room was open all day for coffee, and nice hours in morning for breakfast. The bathroom was outside the bedroom, but as the only other room on the floor was the breakfast room, it was essentially a private bathroom (with shower). There is a sink in the room, so washing up or water for coffee was easy. I travel a fair amount and this was my first B&B. Would certainly do it again. Only recommendation for visitors (to almost any "small" property in Amsterdam, would be to try to pack 1 smaller day bag for the visit so that ALL bags don't need to be brought up flights of narrow and steep stairs. It would have been much easier to leave our big bags in a luggage room (or even at the airport). To Wim and Godfrey....thanks for a terrific visit!

“Super Place - a real "one off"”

I'm a regular visitor to Amsterdam and Barangay is one of the best places to stay in the city. The rooms are deigned with originality and flair, with an exotic feel. The new Buddha temple room looks fab. On my last visit, a particularly cold January day, Wimmo met me with a cup of hot chocolate laced with rum. I got my favourite room (the L-shaped patio room) which is comfortable and quiet - very important to me as I'm a really light sleeper. A large and varied breakfast is served in the room or the communal kitchen. The guys know Amsterdam well (both speak perfect English) and were able to recommend things I'd not seen in my previous 40-odd visits (like the Handbag museum!). The location is perfect for sightseeing and nightlife. A strong recommend.

Room Tip: Patio room for quiet - Buddha temple room for the wow effect

“A little slice of paradise!”

My partner and I were paying a flying visit to Amsterdam and stayed one night at Barangay. The B&B had been recommended by friends and, after reading the TA reviews, our expectations were high.... we weren't disappointed! From the minute we arrived til the minute we left we felt like VIPs, and our only regret is that we didn't stay for longer!

The location (5 minutes from central station) is perfect for exploring Amstersdam. On arrival we were greeted by Edson, who sat us down with a map of the city and a cup of coffee. He marked down the places we wanted to see and recommended some restaurants, which was invaluable as we were staying for such a short time. We were then shown to our room, which was simply beautiful. It was one of the downstairs patio rooms, which was spacious, well equipped (TV, tea/coffee making facilities, fridge), exotically decorated and with access to a small patio area chocca block with fairy lights and delightfully gaudy ornaments. We were very kindly offered a larger room upstairs but we declined as we wanted to make use of the patio. We had our own bathroom which was just down the hall but was as good as an en suite. The shower was simply fab! We both had a perfect nights sleep, and woke up happy and refreshed the following morning. And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, our delicious breakfast was delivered to our room....simply divine!!
Check out was 11:30am, however our flight wasn't until 9 in the evening. We asked if we could leave our bags until the evening, and as no one was checking in to our room that day they very kindly let us leave our stuff in the room until we were ready to collect them. Absolutely 5-star service from (in our opinion)a 5 star place! We'll definitely be back again. Thanks guys! x
