“We paid peanuts, and got peanuts back!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

In short, you get what you pay for, and I think everybody knows this. We all paid about 10 euros a night for a 8 bed dorma, cheap and cheerful.. perhaps not as cheerful as it was cheap but cheap none-the-less. I've given the overall rating as poor 2/5, because it was, however we paid accordingly for that. This hotel to be honest with i'll never forget, primarily as the rooms as the 8 bed dorma we choose was about 8/9 staircases up!! It was ridiculous the stairs were unending, I mean sure the location of the hotel was flipping fantastic, everything just around the corner, however the horizontal location of the place was far from that!! Everybody on arriving to the room was panting and out of breathe, which was quite amusing everytime I opened the door to let somebody into the room. However not so amusing when it was my turn to climb mount Everest to return to my room! Note: DO NOT SLEEP IN even 1 minute past checkout for the staff are Ruthless! They barged into the room, and it was pure chaos, as they ejected us all from our beds & threw us out of the room with no warning! GET OUT! So quite literally you do get exactly get what you pay for, precisely by the minute!! ANOTHER thing: While staying there,i noticed a few families staying there too, with small children. Now, my thoughts are simply that I dont think this is a family hotel, or anywhere for children. 1 incident, on the way to our skyhigh room, we noticed some very dodgy behaviour taking place in one of the room near us, involving 6 mexican looking individuals and a naked blonde lady lying on a bed. On spotting us, the door was slammed closed! As for what was taking place in that room ?!£?! be my guest.. however like i said, not for children, plus the area is around the corner from the Red Light District I think this is mutually appreciated.

Room Tip: Dorma Rooms are many many flights of stairs up.

“Good convenient location, but otherwise average hostel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

We stayed here for one night before our flight back home. We booked a few beds in the 10-bed dorm. It was a rather average, standard hostel dorm. The man at the reception area was quite nice. We'd arrived very early in the morning by overnight coach from London, and since it wasn't check-in time yet, the man let us store our bags and freshen up in the public restroom first.

The place is very convenient to walk around Amsterdam, but then again it isn't that big an area anyway. Bikes are easily available for rent everywhere too. The Red Light District is right behind the hostel, as is a coffeeshop located next to it. Quite a fair amount of bakeries around too but expect touristy prices.

The toilets and showers were relatively clean, there were 2 of each in our dorm. I'd say you get what you pay for, it's relatively clean and we didn't really expect too much from a hostel for 20EUR a night in Summer. Big plus point is that it's within walking distance to the Central Station, and the Anne Frank house, if you're interested.

“DISGUSTING”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

I recently went on a trip to Amsterdam with my university. I did not pay much and so i obviously didn't expect the hotel to be nice at all, however you do expect it to be clean. As soon as we arrived we were warned that there may be mice in our rooms if we leave food in there, so as soon as we heard this we got rid of any food we may have had on us. However, the mice did not need food as they still came in to our room. We were on the top floor and they managed to get in. After complaining to the reception staff, we were then accused of leaving food in our room by them and they did nothing about it. The mice got in to our suitcases and were crawling all over the beds, even when we were in them. We were not even offered an alternative room but were offered a false promise of a refund.
The only good thing i can say about this place is that it was close by to 'dam square' and some main attractions.
Absolutely the worst place i have EVER stayed, and this goes for the other 58 people who were with me too.

Room Tip: Whatever floor you are on, mice can get in so do not stay here.

“Poor, cheap hotel in the heart of the city”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

The place is about a 5-10 minute walk from Central Station and right next to the red light district. My family with two small kids stayed in the quad room with 4 single beds and a private bathroom. It was pretty dingy, but my kids loved it, especially playing in the lockers.

The staff was good and the people in the hotel were pretty respectful, but the walls were very thin and you could here everything in the halls and stairwell. Our room was on the 3rd floor, right next to the stairwell. The kids slept great but I am a light sleeper and did not sleep very well. We booked it as a last resort and was hoping to find something else and cancel this place.

I would not stay there again. If you are a group of young people looking to party, it would be great. Not really family friendly. It has a 24-hour bar and a pool table downstairs, so if you are a light sleeper get drunk and you'll be fine.
