“really far from the center”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Far, really far from the center of the hotel, although transport 15 minutes, the best of this hotel chain to choose the one that is in the center for the same money, because after 8 pm for a long time to wait for transportation that will take you back to the hotel on the outskirts of Artemis . The rooms do not have ashtrays and slippers. About slippers most disappointing. And, most importantly, this never warned on arrival at the hotel take a pledge of € 100 per mini-bar, mini-bar, if not using the time they ordered the deposit is returned. To be honest the hotel is not very much, second time it will not stop. The windows do not open, no shelves in the bathroom where you can arrange toiletries. And the maids are not too kind. The first night found a hole in the bedding. 4 stars for it too.

“Funky, Fresh and Great Value but not near the town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This hotel offers a very fresh look at the "design " aspect of things.
It is situated in what appears to be a business district near PWC and IBM. It was about 30 euro from the airport.
From chairs made of nails and tennis balls, the reception has it all. The staff were very friendly at check in and offered all the relevant advice regards our stay and the faciities.
Round to the left of reception is a small lounge and bar area plus a restaurant.
The breakfast is 19.50 euro and offers a cold/hot buffet. Nothing to complain about but the price could probably be more realistic at 15.00 euro.
Evening meals offer a little more than you would think and the 3 pepper soup with Paprika was delicious. Followed by the Puy Lentil curry, again tasty and wholesome. The service was very good despite the restaurant being busy. For 4 of us, starters/mains plus a bottle of wine was 162 euro - Not cheap but by hotel standards, not too unrealistic either.
Room service is also available if you don't fancy leaving the comforts of the bedroom.

The beds are like the rest of the hotel. Trendy and functional. Chairs, desk and flat screen allow you to work or relax. The TV offers a selection of movies/music and internet( all chargeable). There is also a direct dial phone if you need it but I would suggest using your mobile, probably still cheaper!!
Tea/Coffee and a mini bar( the mini bar is chargeable)round off the room.
Shower and bath pair up with the toilet and too keep you cosy they have underfloor heating:)
Wifi is free throughout the hotel( so why use the internet on the TV??) but can be slow if everyone is online.

This hotel is good for a business traveller but not so good for those people wishing to visit Amsterdam to sight see. It will cost you about 25 euro to get into town each way and there didn't appear to bea tram in sight. Bear that in mind. Yes your City centre hotel may be dearer but deduct what you'd pay in transport and it'll probably work out the same.

“Really not worth it.”

The Artemis is not expensive but is in the middle of nowhere and the restaurant is so understaffed that eating a simple meal can take literally hours: the option is to eat elswhere but there is nothing nearby. The rooms are OK but the beds are uncomfortable: thin mattresses with small sheets that don't stay tucked in. Checking out at (normal) busy times can be very slow - again due to understaffing. It tries to position itself as a business hotel but fills up rooms with tour parties so breakfast can be a struggle. At euro 19 that is also a profound gastronomic disappointment: e.g. weak orange juice from concentrate. You would need a good reason to stay there.

“Great hotel!! Not so good location.”

I stayed at this hotel the first time I ever went to Amsterdam. It was very very cheap and when arriving in the hotel we could not believe what we got for our money!

The lobby was beautiful & very modern, the actual building is also very modern looking too. The lady on reception was lovely and really helpfull she gave us maps and advised on the best travel services in and out of central Amsterdam.

The room itself was very clean, plush and comfortable! I couldn't really ask more from a hotel room really. The bed is still to this date the comfiest I've ever slept on!!

All the fittings were of a really high quality.

The hotel itself is around a 15 mins tram ride away from central Amsterdam which was a little annoying but for the price you can't really complain.

There are no shops around really so if you need anything for your room make sure you stock up when you go into Amsterdam.

If I were to visit Amsterdam on a serious budget again I would stay in this hotel in a flash! If you are like me and can't stay in b&b's with shared bathrooms etc.. then this is the best you will get for your money on a budget! However if you have more money to play with Iw ould suggest staying central.

“Started out as a very neat hotel, and then lost its charm because of "wear and tear"”

The first time I stayed here the hotel was just open a few months or so. Back then (early 2006) hotel rooms with multimedia LCD TV's were still quite rare, so that impressed. Also, the decoration of the rooms was very nice, especially the wooden floors. Another big plus was plain free wireless...all very unusual. After that first time I stayed a dozen times or so until about a year ago. Hotel rooms have been suffering a lot from wear and tear, broken things that do not get fixed, TV problems, problems with water running of in bath tubs and sinks and such. The management should really keep an eye on that and everything would be much better. I stopped using the hotel for these reasons, but also because the beds really provide poor sleeping quality...the pillows can hardly be called pillows, and you can hardly speak of a mattress. Most chain hotels in and around Amsterdam (Accor, Holiday Inn, for example) are better than Artemis today. 5 years ago it would be the other way around.
