There are several things to be aware of when booking a room at the Brownstone:
- The first thing is to avoid staying there when the weather is hot, as the bedrooms are on the 4th and 5th floors (walk-up), the rooms are not spacious and they are HOT. There is no AC and the fans are inadequate to cool the rooms, even in spring in warm weather. On the 4th floor the back room has a window which does not work very well, we were also shown the front room, which has a large window that opens on the street, which leads to the next problem...
- The Brownstone is on a very noisy, busy, not very pleasant street (the Rozenstraat) - cars, trams, a noisy bar next door. If this is not a problem for you, then the location is good, as it is in the Joordan, within walking distance of many attractive areas.
- Also, it has very steep, tiny, spiralling staircases, you cannot carry a suitcase up, but rather have to hand it straight up to another person. The second floor has the breakfast area and kitchen (nice and clean); the 3rd floor the office and living room (also nice), but the bedrooms, once again, are on the 4th and 5th floor.
The best thing about the place is the managment, they are very professional - but the owners need to invest in some AC units, this place is not cheap and needs to provide better comfort for the rates they are charging. (They have another unit called the Townhouse on the alley next door, more expensive but I would imagine quieter in terms of street noise.)
