“a decent budget hotel”

a group of 6 of went to amsterdam 7th nov 2011 for 3 nights, we arrived late evening at shipnol airport from there a 10 min train journey to central station and from there a 10 min walk into the red light district where this hotel is based bang in the middle of all the action, if your going to amsterdam for coffee shops, bars, ladies, sex shows and museums plus lots of sightseeing within walking distance, staying in this hotel is in the perfect location, when we stayed, they were renovating the exterior of the building but no disturbance to our stay. £40 pppn inc breakfast which is cheap for amsterdam arrived with fairly low expections and was pleasantly suprised, nice hotel, clean, friendly staff up for a laugh, 24hr bar. would recommend to someone wanting to go to amsterdam for the same reasons we did. we are already planning our next trip to amsterdam for march 2012 and we wil be satying at the torenzicht. we booked at hotelier.com this included city tax which alot of sites dont and you end up paying more when you arrive.

Room Tip: most rooms in the area sell out so book early to get the choice of room rather than be stuck with wh...

“Basic Hotel - Small & Safe in RLD.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in September 2011 as a solo traveller - cost £165.00 (little annoying that its advertised as £145 no taxes! on Easytobook.com then "city tax" is added when you arrive?). I was looking for hotels south of Damrak but, as seems to be the way in Amsterdam, prices are so high for average hotels. (Basically you will know that if you have been to Amsterdam before as i have that the hotels are not the best & in comparison make The Premier Inn look like the Hilton).. Was a bit worried as did not want to be in middle of RLD but was pleasantly surprised by the staff, hotel & room..

Location - on one of the canals in the RLD - opposite the Cassa Rosso Sex Theatre.. but if you get a room at the rear of the hotel its nice & quiet.. good location to see the sights - 5 mins to dam sqaure or Centraal station , 15 to rembrantplein & 30 to leidseplein & vondlepark areas..

Room - was given room on top / 3rd floor (room 37) which had twin beds, en suite shower, air con, TV would have been nice but not a big deal - it opened with a key card. The hotel had a 24 hour bar downstairs which closed its doors to non-residents at 01.00am which was excellent & made it feel a whole lot safer. The stairs are very steep to the top floors but got used to it. carpets a bit grubby & threadbare & could do with changing. Bed OK for comfort.

Breakfast - Very Good buffet served till 9.00am only!! - Hot breakfast self service & also cold ham, bread cheese, jams etc, coffee, juice. Sets you up for the day.. Fantastic!!

Staff - very pleasant & helpfull with any travel tips etc...

All in all - decent budget hotel for a 1 or 2 night stay if you grab a good deal.. would consider staying again for a quick break..

Room Tip: high rooms to the rear are much quieter.. I would recommend room 37 if you can climb stairs

“ideal hotel if you're not picky!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

Stayed at this hotel basically because it was a great price. The location was convenient and the rooms were very clean. The washrooms were a little bit uncomfortable (shared per floor, toilet/shower combined). The staircase was EXTREMELY narrow which can be bad if you're claustrophobic, or, if you plan to return to your hotel intoxicated with everything fun amsterdam has to offer. With that being said, I was still able to make it up the stairs so it is possible! Management is extremely nice.

Breakfast was included really quite good - also a great selection of coffee/cappuccino/lattes included which was nice!

And also important - no early check in but we were able to leave our luggage at the hotel bar and nothing was stolen - something which many guests at the hotel did!

I gave it four stars because I had no problems with the hotel at all and would stay there again.. however it's not to say that it is a "four star" or luxurious hotel!

Room Tip: Request a room on a LOWER LEVEL!

“The worst night ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

Fortunately I only booked one night. The reception was deception and rude. Our room was up numerous flights of narrow steep smelly stairs. The room was 'decorated' with dark tile on the walls and worn out sticky carpet. There were bugs in one of the beds. We awakened to the sounds of a man barfing in the shower. Delicious. Aka, serious grossness.

Room Tip: Don't go.
