“fair enough for amsterdam”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

Good location just close to central station, lots of noise from the street and staff that terribly speaks english.... the room was quite clean, I paid for double-bed despite I stay alone just because my last experience in A'dam with shared room was traumatic... fair enough for staying in Amsterdam, unless you want to spend tons of money to book a real hotel !

“Not bad for the price!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2011

In February 2010, myself and 9 other friends travelled to Amsterdam for a short break. We had originally booked into the Damrak inn but upon arrival we were told that they were fully booked. The hotel offered us alternative accomadation just a few doors down at the Orange Tulip Hotel. Baring in mind we had only paid £20 each for the night, we were not expecting much. When arriving at the hotel, we were faced with the daunting walk up the steep steps with our luggage. Although we arrived earlier than the stated time for check in, we were given our keys and allowed to enter our rooms as long as the cleaners had finished cleaning.
The rooms were small but did have an en suite. The room did smell of something funny but it wasnt too far from the canal so we ignored it and soon got used to it!
The room was relatively clean and was convenient for our type of trip.
On depature the next day, the hotel manager allowed us to leave our luggage if we wanted to but instead to be on the safe side we took it to the Central Station and placed it in the luggage lockers there.
If you are a group of friends just needing somewhere to sleep for the night without all the luxuries, then this hotel is fine and very cheap. It is very close to all the tourist sites such as the Red Light District and the Central Station. I wouldnt recommend staying much longer than a night as it's not the best hotel in the city

“Do not stay there!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

The worst hotel. I was booked for 2 nights but had to check out after the first night being kept awake by the other people in this hotel till 4am...when i complained (the next day) as there is no phone in the room and you have to go outside in the main street and back 2 doors up to find reception!!!
Advised that i needed to check out and gave reasons - was told: 'we are sorry but no refund - if you had told us last night we would have got the police to throw the other people out!'
Nice. but not sorry enough to give me a refund. the worst value for money i have ever seen. there is nothing good about this hotel - DO NOT STAY THERE!
I haven't even gone into the smell in the bathroom, the hairs in the bathroom, the TV that doesn't work, no hangers, no staff to ask anything, (no phone in room).
The only good thing - i got out of there alive (just!)

“Only if you are desperate with no place else to stay.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2010

We stayed just one night which was more than enough. The room was clean, but very old and expensive . Wanted to cry when I saw the stairs. Also no air conditioning, so impossible to stay in the summer. We wanted to go out at night and around 9 pm we heard somebody trying to open our door. Later on the receptionist asked us if we were staying with some man in the room, since he saw a guy trying to open the door. Anyway we decided to go out to enjoy the city at night, but we were afraid for our belongs. But hopefully nothing bad happened. The location is great, we could not complain about that. We stayed there cause all hotels and even hostels were fully booked, otherwise we had gone to another place.

“Rooms Too Small False Advertisement Website”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

I booked with this hotel, paid for a double, but get a single, when asked for a double, they said they have non available, on the next day i asked again he said will let me know if when any available. But on that day have seen single people checking in bigger rooms, probably paid single rates, but when you pay the price of a £100 a night you expect quality and service, not a Bed and breakfast that charges you for a Big Room and give you a toilet seat room that is a big as a bike shed.
