“bed bugs, homeless man INSIDE corridor!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

this was horrible. the room i stayed in was just a box with a bed. no window, it was stuffy and smelt damp. the bed looked clean with white bedding, i inspected before i slept in it and then decided that i would have to sleep fully clothed. the hotel reception isnt in the same building. i stayed here for two nights alone. both nights i got in at 12.30/1.00am - u have to buzz to get into the building, once i buzzed to get thru the door i was greated by a sleeping homeless man on cardboard at the bottom of the stairs. this man MUST of buzzed to get in and there are cameras inside the building, so reception must of let him in. he was their both nights. on my final day i woke up with 9 or 10 bites. these bites swelled to the size of a 2p coin. everything was bad about this place, apart from the location. i would rather pay an extra 10 euros for a better gaff on the same strip.

Room Tip: DO NOT stay here UNLESS you like HOMELESS men sleeping in the same building and bed bugs

I stayed here with friends over the new year break. We were overcharged and the heating didnt work. Even after complaining a few times about the heat they did nothign. They didnt even say they were going to fix it - they said at 9 degrees C it was warm outside. 9 is NOT WARM. that is cold

our bathroom had no window and no fan so was constantly wet.

horrible place. stay there at your own risk.

Room Tip: Don't stay here. Stay at another hotel not in the centre.

“Quick City Break...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Well, if your just in AMS for a short weekend break, this is a good base and if it's your first time in the City then its easy to find, 2 mins from the Central Station and Dam Square, plenty of shops and restaurants close by..
The rooms were clean and towels/bed clothes changed each day, friendly reception staff, spoke English fine too...

Now for the negative, it's basic, very basic, use only as a place to leave your luggage and to catch a sleep before spending the whole day out in the City.. Although It's a "budget" hotel, It's quite pricey and I would recommend spending a bit extra for a nicer hotel unless your travelling with mates for a short stay..

“Location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Along Damrak so it's very close to the terminal. There's wifi in the reception area. There are restaurants adjacent to the building. I didn't expect much considering the price.

“Don't judge a book by its' cover!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

I stayed at The Orange Tulip hotel from the 9th through the 12th of August 2011. I found this place while searching for a decently priced hotel right in the heart of the Damrak. When I first arrived to the hotel it looked like I had made a bad decision. It was barely visible, snuggled amongst restaurants and stores. There was one small entry way with a small sign which was the only evidence that this hotel was actually there. The first thing that greets you when walking through the doorway was a steep staircase. This leads to a small lobby which contains a reception, computer that is used for internet (which wasn't functioning during my stay), and bathrooms that are frequently visited by the customers from the restaurant below. After checking in, I made my way to the second floor where my room was located. There isn't an elevator in the hotel so again I had to walk up a steep and cramped staircase which can be difficult if you have heavy luggage. I felt sorry for my friend who had a huge bag and was located on the third floor. I finally made it to my room and once I entered I wasn't disappointed. The main and obvious drawback of the room is the size. It is quite small but is still comfortable. There is enough space to put your luggage and move around. The bed is twin sized however is extremely comfortable. The bathroom is smaller than I'm used to however I did have plenty of room to utilize the facilities. They had a small plasma TV hanging on the wall with a few channels however the signal seemed to have had some issues. There weren't many issues and the issues that were present were minor. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel particularly in the rooms themselves. Every morning to early afternoon you can find about three people working diligently to make sure the hotel is spotless. From vacuuming the carpeted staircases to scrubbing your bathroom floor. The hotel does have free wi-fi but you have to be in the lobby for it to work. I found this hotel to be a little expensive but compared to hotels in the surrounding area it is a great deal. Looking out my window I could see the infamous Grasshopper coffee shop. The price and location definitely make the few small things I had issues with tolerable. I would stay here again and recommend it to others.
