“A bit far”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

The hotel is decently priced which was why we chose it. I sits between 2 stations on the metro however is still a far way to walk. One station is more convenient than the other. The hotel isn't flash. We found it a bit hard to get to when we got off at the station as there were no walk ways. The Overamstel station is the correct station to use. Forgot the name of the other station which we got off at.

“good for short trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

The Bastile deluxe Amsterdam is good for visiting Amsterdam:
- free Wifi internet
- free parking
- near to highway and train/metro ( 10 mins)

Cons:
- there is no hair dryer in the room.
- All cups are one-way plastic cups or of paper hence there will be lots of waste.
-There is no RESTAURANT in the hotel in case you do not want to go out.
- door does not close properly and can be dangerous if you think it will close by itself ( there is a device closing the door but it is too weak to close the door).

“Great no-nonsense business hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2011

I have stayed here a couple times now, for a few days to a week at a time, with co-workers.

This hotel is very good for a no-nonsense business hotel. The prices are quite reasonable, the lobby restaurant actually serves pretty good food, and I have never had one bit of problem with the hotel staff - they are accommodating and professional.

The rooms are compact though not small (by european standards, at least), and you get a no-nonsense experience. I recommend you bring soap and shampoo with the toiletries as what you are given is rather paltry.

The location is within a 7-8 minute walk of the metro stop, which can bring you into the center. This is definitely not a place for tourists due to location (unless you get great rates), but for business it's good.

I have also stayed at the other hotel nearby, and it's definitely a step up both in terms of style and price. But we keep coming back to the Bastion for good service and convenience for our business location.

The one drawback is the free Internet - it works fine for browsing, but when the hotel is busy, it just isn't good for VoIP calls... it's very unreliable.

“Decent hotel for the price”

The hotel is a 10 minutes to walk to the nearest metro station (Overamstel) and it takes another 10-15 minutes or so to arrive at Central Station. A negative about the location is that there is really nothing to do nearby. We could not find any cafes, restaurants or bars within walking distance. However, It is right next to a gas station so you could fill up on snacks and beveragesl. We did end up trying the restaurant in the hotel and would definitely advise against eating there. Service was poor, food was poor and definitely not worth the price! Room was clean and beds were comfortable. The room also had a mini fridge and in-room safe. Bathroom was small and did not have a tub, just a shower head and a curtain, which meant that the entire bathroom floor would get wet after showering. Service at the reception desk was ok - efficient but not overly friendly. Also, even though it is branded as being a business hotel the wifi was very slow. Overall, it was an average stay and would probably stay somewhere more central next time but if you are there for business purposes or you have a car it is a good place to stay.

“Good Hotel for the Price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2011

This was a great hotel to stay in when driving to Amsterdam. Secure, FREE parking onsite, FREE WiFi throughout the hotel and located within a 10 minute, easy walk to the Metro (11.50 euro for 48 hour all inclusive ticket- Metro, Tram, Bus). Ours was a smoke-free room, however had a strong smell of cigarette smoke upon arrival. The breakfast buffet was good, but a bit high in price (13.50 euro). Front desk personnel were nice and helpful, but not overly friendly. Definitely recommend if you plan to drive to Amsterdam and spend minimal time in your room.
