We (two friends) booked this for a 30th birthday party. There were around 15 of us, so our choice was limited, but this had a lot of vacancies.

There are a few bad points - the guy at the counter is pretty rude and, more importantly, is unhelpful provides poor service. We booked a twin, only one of the beds was made up, and he wouldn't fix it himself, saying we had to wait for the maid in the morning. So, sleep was uncomfortable. He also wouldn't let one of our friends in (even though he had ID) until the lead booker arrived. You have to wonder why he works in the service trade, to be honest. Our TV didn't work, but we were only there for two nights, so we didn't bother to ask him to fix it.

There are no real facilities to be honest - kettles in the room but no tea/coffee or milk; cold drinks available but for €2.50, and a 4% surcharge for cards; no internet; forboding TV room.

You could do a lot better, but it's OK in a fix.

Good points? The hotel is in a good area - near the party areas, but on a quiet, but main street itself.

This unique family runned hotel was a great place for our first visit to Amsterdam. The owners are very kind and helpful as the hotel is clean and we felt like at home. The breakfast room is really cute and romantic. It`s true that you hear a lot through the walls but the other guests were very pleasant and it was quiet at night. What do you expect in such a original and historical building? Hope we got a little space when we come again.

The hotel looks so nice on the photos, family run hotel in a 17th century building off the Canal; as soon as you puch open the door you get a faint smell of stain tobacco smoke which seems to haunt the whole joint.. You go upstairs after being ordered to pay for your entire trip (they are probably used to travellers leaving immediately they have seen the rooms); Said rooms are cheerless and bare, a good place to commit suicide..As for breakfast which we had read somewhere was very hearty well it all came out of plastic bags , the ham, the cheese and even the horrible industrial bread and bottled 'orange' juice. This is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in and so I left and found something far better and cheaper, The seven bridges (half the price, clean and welcoming)..

The hotel's website photos promise cheerful, colorful rooms, but my room (and a couple others I saw) was more like staying in a prison cell, cramped, colorless, viewless, FREEZING COLD, and NOISY ALL NIGHT. Breakfast - included only if you book through the hotel - is cold hard-boiled eggs, cold rolls, cold bland cheese slices, cold cheap meat slices, and awful coffee. Good location, but Amsterdam's small, everything's walkable. Could have gotten the same kind of nothing room for half the price elsewhere - I looked. NO PHONES in the rooms, and they lost my phone messages.They did, however, tell my callers when I had come in - and when I would be getting up. An overseas caller asked if they would allow an incoming one-minute phone call to me at the lobby at midnight, when lines are silent. A big NO to that. Internet? Don't ask.
