firstly we got off the train figuring out where to go. when we eventually gave up and got a taxi it seemed to be in another city, seemed so far out. it was tucked in a street of houses and the steps going up to it are very steep and small so have a rest before you tackle them!
eventually we were let in(had to ring buzzer and they open door) and paid and he circled on a map where we were and where dam square was. he them led us out to bring us to and apartment 10 minutes away which was not what i wanted to hear when i have a bad back and was standing up for 2 hours!!..
eventually we got to this modern door down a little street across from mc donalds(very handy, medium chips and 2 hamburgers for 4euro anyone??) this modern door was the most modern and stylish your gonna get for the holiday. we stayed in 18a. quite cramped small hall but the room wasnt as small as i expected from other reviews. there was a little back garden outside the doors were the only type of ventilation we had. the bed was comfortable but there was this ugly throwover on the bed, old fashioned furniture that did not mix. we had no television for 3 days (NOT recommended) when finally after no help from the father of family who owns this- well it was working before- the cleaner who speaks no english whatsoever unplugged the tele, took it out of the room and finally got it working! on the last day..
the toilet is very cramped, tall(big) people should not stay here. there was a fan on everytime i went there but didnt hear anything from our room. the shower was in a separate room with another sink(there was also one in the room). quite spacious room. good room in the shower but the water is hard to get lukewarm. but there is a heater in the shower room which means you need to get in and out quickly without sweating straight after your shower or fainting.
20/30 minswalk to dam square/ redlight district side. you can get there quick as long as you know where your going. good nightlife i suppose the sportsbar is good. and the bulldog have a huge pub and little coffeeshop downstairs to the right hard to see. went for new years eve, loads of fireworks. countdown was crap.
