“Do not expect any frills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

So long as you do not expect frills or comfort, this hotel will suit you.

As I am writing this from the room I can confirm is has no comfort, the radiators are either too hot or cold and this chair is like sitting on a rock.

That said is is better than a UK Travelodge, but that is not hard to achieve.

This is winter and it gets dark early and the area around the hotel, Gassperplaas, is not safe for a white guy alone after dark, in fact one of the restaurant owners in the Centrum seemed quite concerned for my safety when I told him where I was staying.

I think it would be fine in the summer as there is a lake and open space around it, but I simply caught the Metro into the centre each evening and only used the room for sleeping, but also did not come back too late either on advice from locals.

The Metro station next door saves this, unless you are using it for a single night whilst travelling I would not recommend it, I have been here for a week and cannot wait to get out of Amsterdam, although I am not impressed with the city either, it seems focussed on sex and drugs and anything tacky related to it.

Having said all that, in the summer i am sure the hotel would have a different image.

It does have free internet though

“A verry good hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

We arrived before 12am and could go directly to the room after unpacking we went to the bar for some drinks the person of the reception where two friendly persons they even give us the remote controle because we were the only guest at the moment in the bar so we could choose a tv chanel. After visiting amsterdam we went with the nightbus to the hotel so in the day verry quick with the metro in the night with the bus stop direct before hotel. It was verry late but we still could get some drinks at the bar. ONE WORD IT'S THE BEST

“Perfect, great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

This was our first visit to Amsterdam and found this holtel perfect. We parked our car and used the bus to get into Amsterdam, no problem. The hotel was clean, friendly and very comfortable. Would recommend this hotel to any one and will definately be the only place we stay when visiting the city. Great place, lovely staff, thank you for a really good time.

“Great hotel if you are driving to Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

Driving in Amsterdam seems like a nightmare, and since we were coming by car, we booked this hotel based on other reviewers mention of good parking facilities, highway access and proximity to the Metro into the city. It was perfect on all counts. Even with horrible Metro construction blocking our way into the city each day, causing us to have to switch to their bus system once we go in, we really never had any trouble. I recommend this hotel to anyone coming by car.

“not a hotel I will be re-booking”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2010

OK, maybe this review is slightly tainted by the fact that despite this being the closest hotel to my company's Amsterdam office, it is still a 50 minute walk. I could have claimed more expenses and stayed near the airport. (a definate option for next time)

The Campanile Amsterdam is a no frills hotel, with a very limited menu in the restaurant, not particularly fast service, and a bit of a laid-back atmosphere.
I don't think I'm a particularly fussy eater, but there were only two choices I would have gone for on the menu. I plumped for the Lasagne, which was described as "Bolognese Lasagne", but I could barely find more than a few crumbs of beef between the soggy slices of pasta. There wasn't much other sauce either, plus it was extremely hot having come straight from the microwave. So I asked for a side-order of chips, which when eventually delivered, my pasta was nearly cold.

If you are on a back-packing tour, this place is ideal. As a business hotel it's a dead-loss.
