Just stayed here for new year 2012 with 2 friends.. ages 24, 24, 23....the rooms are really small and the whole place looks old fashioned. The lockers are not in your room so you have to walk to your locker every time you need anything.....dirty toilets and showers. We were told off for drinking and smoking in our room on new years eve and then we were told by the bald bloke who was holding a truncheon at the time to get out and not return..as he left we began to pack our stuff...he returned 5 minutes later and threatened us with the police....then 5 minutes later as we were about to leave...8 yes 8 policemen entered our room and gave us 10 seconds to leave..which we did. I am sure there was a more calm and effective way to have resolved this situation...yes we broke ruled but from the moment we entered the hostel..the bold bloke seemed very strange and a little possessed..the rest of the staff were fine..as it happened we found another hostel called stayokay which was so much better and would recommend to anyone..hope this helps anyone thinking of staying here.

very reasonably priced for like 30 euros a night, next to the RLD, but can be avoided, 5 minutes walk to central station, no smoking or drugs or alcohol allowed, free breakfast, really friendly staff, bed linen provided as well

In the middle of the red light district you'll find this christian hostel. It takes just about 10 minutes walk from the central station and it's in the middle of the main place of Amsterdam's nightlife. I stayed there in august and the price was very low for a city like Amsterdam: about 25 euro including the breakfast, which was really good.
Despite this, I won't return there and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
The building should have been a sort of christian college and nothing has been made to change this appearance.
In the hostel it's strictly forbidden to bring alcohol and drugs and on every wall pulse christian quotes, but this isn't a great problem. The dorm where I slept had 12 persons but it was very small, the sheets were dirty and the bed was uncomfortable. The bathroom is shared by at least 25 persons and, even though they clean three times a day, it was always quite dirty. Every time you entered in the hostel you have to show twice a voucher: that's good for the security but it makes you feel like you're crossing a checkpoint. The atmosphere seemed the same of barrack, I feel like spending there at most 8 hours a day, just to sleep at night.
If you're a looking for a shelter in Amsterdam, where you can sleep but also feel in lively and warm place, don't choose this hostel.
