“A costly cage”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

If you have aged people in your travel group please dont go here. It has the steepest steps(no lift) I have ever seen. I read about this hotel in many forums and unfortunately none of them mentioned about this. The land lord a Japanese lady is very friendly and of good service but otherwise this is not a place I would sleep next time. The beds and room was ok. Those who are scared of cats will have a hard time in their kitchen/restaurant.

“hotel NOT my home”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

When my mates and I arrived at the front door of the hostel, we were greeted by the long, narrow staircase, typical to Netherlands. And so we have to lugged our heavy suitcase up the stairs and it didnt help that our room was on the TOP floor. It was a really funny sight, us three pulling/dragging those bags up the floor. But the fun ends there, as we were a bit peeved that we had a smoke-happy room. I didnt get good sleep throughout my stay as i'm allergic to cigarette's smoke and the room reeked of smoke. The shower room and the toilet was really really tiny at the top floor so we had to go to the second floor as theirs are a bit bigger. The good thing about the room was that it has a sink and clean sheets.
Every morning we were served breakfast that consist of eggs (anyway you like it and prepared for you) and jam or chocolate spread with toasts. Chris (the owner), Michele and Tom ( the night guy) were very very friendly and kind which made our stay there slightly better. Oh, the two resident cats were adorable too! yes, there are cats in the hotel, so if you are not a feline-advocate, do stay away.
It was also easy to get Halal foods as there were plenty in the vicinity and heaps of souvenir shops too. Plus, all the major attractions are within walking distance from our hotel, thus we saved on transportation!

“good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2010

Our experience with My Home wasn't that good at the beginning because when we arrived, after reconfirming the booking by phone and email, we were told that they had doublebooked the room meaning we didn't have a room for that night! But they arranged for us to stay at another hotel for that night. The following nights we stayed at My Home, the staff is realy friendly and the hotel is situated in a great location, within walking distance of all the spots in Amsterdam. The room was clean as were the shared showers and toilets. Walls are thin and our neighbours were very noisy, don't forget earplugs if you want to get some sleep. Breakfast is included in the price: coffee/tea, eggs, bread, jam, nutela, butter, cheese, peanut butter. There's free high speed internet but it never worked. Good value for Amsterdam.

“Wonderfull !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

A nice and typical place in the center of Amsterdam. A warm welcome, the owners were very helpfull and of sound advice (they gave us the right places corresponding to our expectations). The rooms walls are not very soundproof, but a pair of earplugs would overcome this little problem. The breakfast is great (with eggs, toasts, peanut butter, blueberry jam, and on...). Two young kitties (Tarzan & Jane) are part of the main room, which adds to the "sweet home" atmosphere. Bear in mind that it is not a 3 stars hotel, so don't expect too much comfort. But honestly, the price is quite fair. I'll soon get back to Amsterdam, and I'll return to this hotel for sure.

“Great place in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2010

Good location - close to central train station. Amsterdam is small so the hostel is basically close to everything. We walked to the Anne Frank Museum, and we walked everywhere when we went site-seeing and out at night. Staff were friendly. Kitchen and lounge area were very decent, with a pool table. Breakfast in morning was very good - we were asked how we like our eggs done. Got toast, jam and juice with it. Used the kitchen during the day to make our own lunch. No curfew, got keys so could come and go as we please. Showers were decent and there was always one available. The toilet door was difficult to close but once you got it, it was fine and it locked. There were lockers in the dorm room. We stayed in a room with 6 beds, no problems. Rooms were clean. Overall it was a good hostel and a good experience and I would stay at this hostel again.
