We stayed at Hostel My Home August 2011 and had a great time. Chris the owner was great, a real friendly and knowledgeable guy. Room was comfortable and as expected for what we paid, Would recommend in fact hope to visit again New Year!

To clarify, a 3 out of 5 here doesn't mean it was bad at all. It was average, and given the budget I (and presumably other travelers) was working on, I'd stay here again. The good: Staff was helpful and friendly, able to provide recommendations on food, bars and sightseeing. Of the three hostels I stayed in during my trip with my two brothers, the food here was the best (which isn't to say it was great, but having eggs to complement the usual bread and jam was nice). I was never worried about security, and the location (right near Central Station) was great, particularly when arriving and leaving. The bad: lots of steps (we were on the top floor), small room and beds, food was mediocre, communal shower and bathroom. Again, especially for young travelers on a budget, this hostel was totally fine, and if I couldn't afford something nicer, I could see myself coming back.
The location and central is service is nice. But the rooms are very VERY small. There is a steep staircase to get to them, so if you have kneee issues, think twice before booking here.
If you have aged people in your travel group please dont go here. It has the steepest steps(no lift) I have ever seen. I read about this hotel in many forums and unfortunately none of them mentioned about this. The land lord a Japanese lady is very friendly and of good service but otherwise this is not a place I would sleep next time. The beds and room was ok. Those who are scared of cats will have a hard time in their kitchen/restaurant.
When my mates and I arrived at the front door of the hostel, we were greeted by the long, narrow staircase, typical to Netherlands. And so we have to lugged our heavy suitcase up the stairs and it didnt help that our room was on the TOP floor. It was a really funny sight, us three pulling/dragging those bags up the floor. But the fun ends there, as we were a bit peeved that we had a smoke-happy room. I didnt get good sleep throughout my stay as i'm allergic to cigarette's smoke and the room reeked of smoke. The shower room and the toilet was really really tiny at the top floor so we had to go to the second floor as theirs are a bit bigger. The good thing about the room was that it has a sink and clean sheets.
Every morning we were served breakfast that consist of eggs (anyway you like it and prepared for you) and jam or chocolate spread with toasts. Chris (the owner), Michele and Tom ( the night guy) were very very friendly and kind which made our stay there slightly better. Oh, the two resident cats were adorable too! yes, there are cats in the hotel, so if you are not a feline-advocate, do stay away.
It was also easy to get Halal foods as there were plenty in the vicinity and heaps of souvenir shops too. Plus, all the major attractions are within walking distance from our hotel, thus we saved on transportation!
