Hmmm, I was toying between an average and very good and opted for the former.

The camosite has a lovely atmosphere and I imagine when it's sunny is amazing. We were a little unlucky as my friend booked the cabins for most people rather than the wagonettes by accident; and to be honest they did resemble Austwitz (well maybe not but they were quite grotty - stunk of fags and covered in pen graffitti) Mind you,what did we expect at such a cheap price??

I stayed in a wagonette which was actually nice - clean very basic but you got a good night's sleep and they didn't smell!

Location wise, quite near a tram stop and cyclable into Amsterdam. The place itself it quite quirky - like a grungy butlins- they sell most things and there is a decent bar and you can hire bikes etc.

Booked for two nights, stayed for four on campervan plot. Plentiful showers, clean toilets, useful shop, helpful reception and bike hire (three flights of stairs up to bridge). Good ride/tram into centre. Nephew(22) checked out bar but did not use after Amsterdam. Good stay for uncle and nephew. Pile of rubbish by plot but staff quickly cleared up without prompt.

We stayed at this camping ground on two occasions. We camped the whole time except for one night where we stayed in a wagonette (cute but expensive). To camp here is cheap by European standards (14 euro for two no car), but you had to pay for showers and they lasted 7 minutes.

The first time we stayed here it was packed and even though the bathrooms were cleaned twice a day they were always pretty dirty due to the camping ground being reduced to mud after the rains.

The location is ok, it's about a 10 minute walk to the tram stop and another 20 minutes into the city centre. The internet didn't work both times we were there and the computers were expensive.

There is a shop that sells fresh baguettes and croissants everyday and they always cooked enough so no one missed out even when it was packed. I wouldn't suggest camping (in the tent area) unless you smoke weed, it's like a hippy commune.

I visited with some pals (lads break!) in October 2011 and we had a rocking time. Price-wise it was less even than hostels and it's not too far from the city via tram after quite a scenic walk across the river.

Being a lads holiday we were "on it" thoroughly, especially appreciating the "cultural" aspect of Amsterdam, which due to nature of the accommodation we cheerfully re-branded Campsterdam. Naughty men! ;-)

The campsite itself provides good facilities with showers at €1 a go which last a good ten minutes, a good shop with essentials inc. skins and booze (open till 9pm), and a bar/cafe (which we never used but looked OK).

We stayed in a couple of huts which contained comfortable bunks. The large pillows I personally found a bit uncomfortable but it's a small gripe really.

For the price, there's very little to be unhappy about here. Except, the obvious point: you're not in the centre. I think if I go again I'd like to be in the centre. But Zeeberg is a fantastic if quirkily fun alternative which is great value!
