I was a bit worried about what I'd find with this hostel, I organsied a trip for myself and 4 friends over new year - none of us had stayed in a hostel for 5 years but we wanted something cheap and in the town centre. We paid 35 Euros per night, but only because it was over NY, would be much cheaper usually. When we arrived we went tot he front desk to check in, we paid 50 cents to rent towels and 5 of us with carry on luggage paid 2 Euros for a locker to share. The guy who checked us in was quite funny, he left momentarily and his colleague carried on checking us in, when he came back the colleague asked where he was and he said he went for a "dancing break". Amsterdam really uis everything people tell you it is!!!

We were in an 8 bed dorm on the top floor, the beds were comfy, nice big pillows, always had hot water. Yes, it is a bit dingy but what do you expect for the price. I felt safe and the room was warm and quiet. Alot of it is luck of the drawer in what room mates you get but everyone was very respectful.

There is a bar downstairs where you can drink beer, play pool and hang out. The beers are cheap and I think it's open all night.

The location of this hostel couldn't be better, 5 minute walk from Centraal station, right by the red light district (beware if this isn't the location you want!!!) we had a lovely view over the canal.

Great location, very close to train station. Hostel was very clean, room was hoovered everyday and bathrooms were cleaned everyday! Most of the staff were very friendly, really comfy beds! We stayed for 5 nights and paid 80 euros! Good hostel for a good price would recommend!

If you want to stay in the RLD for not very much money, this is about the best place to stay. Friendly staff, cheap(ish) beer and a pit into which you can pass out at your leisure.

Shared dorms are not for the faint hearted - something of a roulette in terms of your room mates, but surely the opportunity to meet a 20 stone, drunken Nigerian is part oft he joy of travelling to Amsterdam for a weekend?

This was a terrible hostel and the only pro was that it was a good location. My friend and I stayed 3 nights and were not pleased with our stay. When we got there we were told there was no Internet wifi despite what it said on the website. The rooms were extremely dirty - the carpets are layered with hair an dirt.. We saw the house keeper vacuuming but when he did it did not pick up anything on the floor. The showers are infested with mold.
This is a note for all the women that plan to stay alone or even with a friend - web you are walking through the main floor/desk/pub area to get to the stairs you feel extremely uncomfortable and like a piece of meet with all the old men and sketchy men.
