I stayed here as a single female traveler for 3 nights. Since there are only mixed dorm rooms with 4 beds each at IBH, I was in a room with three guys during my entire stay. They were all nice and friendly, and I never felt unsafe, but there was a problem with finding a place to change clothes - the shower room is always wet and also has 4 sinks in it, so there's no privacy there, and the toilet rooms are extremely tiny. The hostel should consider adding a couple of "changing rooms" for those people who don't want to undress in front of strangers.

Otherwise, the location is stellar, the staff was very accommodating, and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast is very good, too, and the lounge is a very comfortable place to relax and watch TV. I would stay here again if I was traveling with a companion and we could get a room to ourselves.

Really good location for the bars but also a safe environment and very pretty spot right next to the canal. The rooms are extremely basic and a bit shabby, but clean and secure and fine if all you want is somewhere to sleep! The staff were very friendly and courteous and we had no problems at all. Just a word of warning - the first flight of stairs is very steep and only for the fit and sober!!!

In a safe place, near everthing. But the room isn't good and the bathroom is horrible...
Don't go there. Photos are ok, but there everything is different...

Don't let the name deceive you. It's located near Leidesplein and right off of Prisengracht and Leidestratte; beautiful neighborhood; very safe; affordable as well. The staff is a delight to be around and is very helpful should you have questions about the area or how to dial a phone number in Amsterdam...I prefer the private rooms at the top of this canal home which has been retro fitted into a nice hostel with many 4 bed college like rooms...but splurge a bit more and get yourself a private room on the top; very secure and simply the best in Amsterdam...if you have any questions about Amsterdam just email me at wesleyalfordiii@yahoo.com; it's my favorite place and I've been twice already!
