“Jan 27th - 30th / Room 405 :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

This hotel / hostel was in a great location bang in the middle of Amsterdam, close to the red light district, loads of coffee shops and other tourist attractions. From start to finish the staff were very friendly and helpful, apart from an incident in the hotel bar... Even the bouncer on the door was a BFG and helpful pointing out directions on the map and assisting us when we had lost our hotel passports : / The room was a fair size considering there was eight friends staying in the same room. The hotel has very easy access to the terrace and ground floor with a lift taking into account - 'high times'. The toilet in the room also had an awful stench but was nothing we couldn't handle as we were in the rooms for as little time as possible.

On another note..don't buy weed in the coffee shop next door as its bollocks! - GO TO GREEN PLACE :)

THANKS BULLDOG

“Clean, relatively cheap hostel in good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

The Bulldog is really better described as a hostel than a hotel - there are some private rooms but the majority are dorm style rooms; however there is a bar/lounge downstairs and the staff were very friendly and helpful - as well as having overt security everywhere which was quite reassuring.

I stayed with a friend in a dorm room - they are bunkbeds, so be aware if you're going on your own that you might not have a preference as to top or bottom bed (Although I'm sure people in the room would be flexible)
Good spacing between the beds in the room, about 6 feet between each bed, with two lockers in between - the lockers didn't seem that secure, but good enough for leaving non-valuables in.
The room I stayed in was en-suite, with separate shower/wet room. Room was clean and warm, as was the en-suite. Only three power sockets for a room of 10 though!

Great location, only about a 10 minute walk from the train station and in the heart of the tourist area, so made getting around very easy.

Only downside is the service at the bar - they do serve food and snacks but there seems to be a disconnect between the bar and the kitchen; I was brought the wrong order on two occasions, and on the third the food never materialised! Drink service was good however, and plenty of places to eat outside of the hotel, so not a big deal for me.

Nice perks - free (fast!) wifi throughout and free 'breakfast' (toast, sliced meat/cheese, juice and coffee basically)

“There must be better places in Amsterdam”

The rooms are very average and its location in the Redlight isn't the best, lots of sketchy-types and creepy older men around. The service was very cold and as one of the more expensive hostels in town it was a poor value. I think it's popular for it's name and frankly, undeservedly so. I've stayed in many hostels and suggest looking elsewhere first.

“It is what it is”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

This hotel is what it is. It is cheap, clean, and close to shops and the Red Light District. There is a bar/ smoking room in the back of the lobby; but don't order food from there. Go out and explore the city!
It's a great place to meet young travelers and I always felt my belongings were safe. There are lockers in the rooms and the hotel staff were very friendly. I always felt comfortable speaking English and had a great time here!

Room Tip: Depending on your comfort level, go with a room with fewer beds. I spent a few days in a 10 person r...

I have stayed with 2 friends at the new apartments at Spui Street and say that it has been worthy of it. The place is brand new, is located above The Bulldog Lounge Coffeeshop and close to restaurants, bakeries and other places to make your stay very comfortable. I recommend foe sure !!!!
