This hotel is so cute, comfortable and the staff is wonderful. The rooms are small and bare but clean and comfortable. It is located in the Jordaan area (safe and quiet) and on Sat there is a market on the street below.

There is a great little bar across the street and within walking distance there are many good eats. Just a few blocks away is Anne Frank House, and many many great sites.

Amsterdam is full of wonderful people, culture and food. It's a don't miss!!

“Worst hotel ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

The bathroom terribly stinks; I had never taken a shower before wearing socks. So disgusting was the room.
Furthermore, the staff is very unfriendly. At the time we had to pick our lugagge to get our train no personnel was in the hotel and the door was locked. After calling to the phone number the reception guy appeared 10 min later with the explanation that he had gotten to go to the police because someone broke in...
We just went without saying a word to just get our train.

“Great Location, very helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

I spent 2 nights at Hotel Acacia and would recommend it as a great place to stay if you are on a budget. The rooms are a good size, very clean, lots of light from large windows, nice bathroom and comfy bed.
The location of the hotel is fantastic, very close to the main train station, easy walk to Anne Frank's house, lots of nice restaurants and cafes and also very handy to a bike hire shop. Would highly reccomend the Mexican resturant right outside!
I also found that staff to be very friendly and helpful. Were happy to store my bag for a few hours after I checked out and they a laptop avail to all guests to access the net for free, plus free printing.

“Acacia - just OK and not recommended”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in July. Booked this place as most everything in the city was booked. The hotel is located in a great area (walking distance from train station and to Anne Frank House), but that is the only flattering thing I can say about it. It needs to be completely remodeled, and a coat of paint which is also badly needed will not do it. We stayed on the 3rd floor and the stairs are VERY steep and could be dangerous. Our room was clean and the towels were changed daily, but there was just something about the room and hotel that just felt dirty! The breakfast each morning was minimal and again just OK. The front desk staff was not very helpful in offering advice about the area or making recommendations or even providing an area map! I would also suggest getting and saving a proper receipt if you pay in cash. The reason being is that we paid in cash (a day before we checked out) and upon returning home were also charged on our credit card (which is required to hold the reservation)! Thankfully, after much back and forth and many complaints, the hotel did manage to locate a receipt for our payment although they originally said they did not have record of payment. The hotel and its staff are not very professional and I felt after the double charge that there was something dishonest about them. Again, make sure you ask for a proper receipt as the one offered for cash payment was written on a scrap of paper without any hotel info or on hotel letterhead. I would not recommend this hotel.

“Needs more than a lick of paint”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2010

This place is interesting.
It is in a lovely location, albeit maybe a little out of the way.
It has a nice review in Lonely Planet, (2008)
So you would maybe think it would try to work with these things instead of rest on them.

Unfortunately it has rested on them and sunk very deep into the bad side.

I really wanted to like this place, the location is lovely and the shape of the hotel is
quirky and quite interesting. Even the steep stairs didn't bother me as they are pretty much standard
in all of Holland.

The miserable, almost Auto-Pilot reception and being given a key and pointed to the stairs, wasn't the nicest welcome.

The room was hot, and pretty battered, really needing a spruce up.
The beds where so stupidly soft it was like sleeping on a blancmange.
And the bathroom was horrible and in need of some care.

The breakfast was ok, though and the place does have a nice feel to it at breakfast, but the
rest really needs updating.

Oh and when I woke up on the final day I realised that there where no towels in our room.
By that time I just wanted to get out so we just paid (Not by debit card as they don't accept them?) and left.

I Will go back to Amsterdam
I Will definitely go back to Jordaan.
I WILL NOT go back to Hotel Acacia.

In summary it is a really big missed opportunity that has lots of potential but has maybe run out of steam.

You can get a lot more for not much more money elsewhere.
