There are a variety of complaints on here about the Bicycle Hotel, but we found the place exactly what we expected. It was one of the cheapest places we found in Amsterdam that still afforded us our own room. The room was not high end, but it was a place to sleep and relax at the end of long days. Besides, why stay inside when you're visiting Amsterdam?

The breakfast was a step above continental, but decent. The interenet was reliable and they had bikes for rent at a fraction of the cost of some of the other locations around the city.

The biggest downside is probably the shared bathroom. We didn't spring for our own. Also the heat on the top floor in August was a bit much on some of the evenings. But again, compared to the price of many other hotels around the city, we got what we expected.

85 euro per night, dirty and dusty rooms, broken drain and open air wires, no room make up, what else? Hard to say that for dutch authorities this is an hotel!!! take care. I'd not recommend such a solution to anybody. This 'hotel' is pretty much a place to shower and sleep, not much more. The rooms are small and if you have osteoporosis, vertigo or an inner ear infection the stairs probably make this place a no go for you. That being said the location is okay, as long as you are going to rock it like the locals on a bike or a tram; as the hotel hires bikes for a reasonable price and is very close to a tram stop. Lots of lovely little cafes, bars and restaurants nearby as well as a supermarket. Staff are friendly and helpful and breakfast is basic but adequate. Free wifi is also quite nice for a change! Place was clean but basic and seriously, you are in Amsterdam.... what are you doing sitting in your room?

A friend and I traveled through Europe and were intrigued by the the Bicycle Hotel's website. All the information on their website is falsely advertised. A few examples: Yes, it is a cosy hotel, only, it's NOT a hotel. My friend and I got lucky and stayed across the street in an apartment, but we learned that it the actually "hotel" everyone has to share a bathroom. I have stayed in hostels and that is what they do. "Friendly staff" only if your lucky. I almost got abducted by a man in a car when I was outside and they shrugged it off. "Free wireless internet for laptops" yes that is true, but it doesn't work. Oh, by the way the television in our room didn't work either and the staff didn't care.

If lies are your speed and you like living in the stone age, read the website and stay there. On a good note, you can rent bikes which are in good condition and they gave a good map of the city.
