“Another Stay”

We arrived in Amsterdam on January 1st and stayed four nights. Once again the Seven Bridges was as wonderful as ever. While you won't find big hotel amenities here what you will find is that you are staying in an Amsterdam canal house. It's kind of like having your own studio apartment, living in an incredible building. All of the rooms that we have stayed in are spacious. Since we experienced two days of torrential rain it was great to have a room where you could actually sit and relax, taking the occasional break from the storm. If this appeals to you it's a great place to stay. One word of advice is that if you're not walkers and most of what you plan to do is on the other end of the canals you may want to find a hotel closer to that area and while you may find something equally charming, my experience is that it will be at a much higher price. Over the years of staying here we have become acquainted with the owners and have found them, and their staff, to be incredibly helpful yet wonderfully unobtrusive. If you want advice and recommendations you will probably need to ask.

“A honey moon delight”

Not all rooms are alike. We had number 5. It was feeling like home, except that this room is much much nicer than home, furnished with nice antiques. A mixture of different periods, but nicely done. There is a small terrace accessed through the bathroom, overlooking a small garden. This is the kind of room you don't want to leave.
Don't except a hotel attitude, or full service. It is more like living in someone's place. Jut enjoy it.
Did I mention the two Empire mirrors facing each other? There are thousands of you when you are on the bed :-)

Room Tip: number 5, but you can chose the room from their website

“good experience”

it's a beautiful building and everything, but for some reason our impressions spolied a bit when we moved in and it's hard to understand why.. Maybe we had expected something outstanding for #2 rated hotel in Amsterdam. Maybe one needs a 24 hour reception, maybe minibar full of drinks and breakfasts on the ground floor. It dooes feel good though whn you take a canal boat excursion and the boat stops right next to your hotel and they say that it's one of the most beautiful spots for the whole excursiion.. Maybe we were wrong choosing the top floor (yes we had known about the steep stairway), but indeed it's only annoying whne carrying luggage i.e. on the first and (more important) last days of one's trip. Anyway, the presonnel was very friendly and helpful and i guess we would need to stay at another hotel to fully understand the difference.. And lastly despite what i said, indeed I would recommend this hotel!

“Great location, great local flavor”

Hotel Seven Bridges was the ONLY bed and breakfast type place we booked in Europe - we usually stay in more "full service" properties. That said, this place was fantastic. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable (had one of those "temperpedic" type foam mattresses), we loved the residential feel of the location near Rembrant Square and that it was more out of the way than places closer to Dam Square. We were in room 4 so we didn't have any problems with stairs like some other people complained about, but it is on the same level as reception so if you want to sleep late there is a little bit of hallway noise from people coming and going.

The reception/staff was pretty much non-existant, but we didn't care about that at all. When we arrived we got checked in without delay, and then the gentleman promptly told us where we could get breakfast for 1E and we should do this instead of having him do our breakfast for 12E. (OK, I get it - you don't want to go out and shop for my breakfast. No problem.) Upon check out, they called us a cab for the airport the evening before we departed and got a 35E rate on the trip to the airport. A good deal considering our trip in was a little over 50E.

Make sure you read all their Info on their website and you won't be dissappointed. I find that most of the things that people are complaining about on this forum are things they address on their website including the narrow stairs, not having people on staff 24/7, and cancelation and booking policies, etc.

The coffeeshops and restaurants in the immediate area were all fantastic.

Room Tip: Room 4 - no stairs, but on level of reception without a view of the canal.
