“HOTEL BRIAN CLOSED”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

person found this review helpful

Myself and a group of 18 friends booked the hotel brian to find when we got there the 'hotel' had been brought out and our booking had been lost. With this in mind the owner then decided he could only put us up for 1 night charging us £50 Euros each instead of the £35 Euros we agreed when booking. The owner is only after a quick buck, once your money is handed over he doesnt care less... I strongly advise not staying there, only interested in getting your money, complete dive..!!!!

“Worse than the pits”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2010

We stayed there for 6 nights and found the place absolutely awful and we have stayed in some dives. The first room was described as double but was obviously a single with a larger bed so the door would only open a little, less than halfway, and the window was about 2m from floor. Next room was even smaller but with a canal view window, door opened but washbasin meant having to sidle past to get out, useful in a fire alarm. The communal shower had no shower head, the plaster was missing from corners, no cleaning of room in all the time we were there and when we complained were told "But we are a small hotel" which translated as "what do you expect for the money?"
Spend a couple of Euros more and avoid this place.

“DON'T GO. DIRTY”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2009

Cheap and in city center. ok! the receptionist was very kind till we said we didn´t want to stay there. the stair are to small to carry a big luggage, u need 2 people. the room was ok but there was a [--] in the shower O_O. I couldn't even look at it coz the smell was too horrible!.
then the receptionist started to be unfriendly and tried to get the money for the all days(U only have to pay the 1st one), she started to scream and made us pay for the key (we left in the room the luggage while finding another place)...she was suppoused to give that money back...but she only gave the 75% O_O...

it's ok if U go to have party and don't mind the hotel...

“Cheap 'n' cheerful B&B - recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2009

I haven't stayed in Hotel Brian for a while, but was pleasantly surprised. I booked it because it was cheaper than any of the other 1* or 2* budget hotels with private rooms in Amsterdamage. It has new owners, who have made-over the place considerably with new carpets and beds. The room was pretty basic, with a bed and sink, and shared showers and toilets on each floor. Breakfast was included, only I never woke up in time. No lock-in, unlike some of the crappy hostels in 'Dam.

The main plus point for me was that the sheets / duvet and towels were clean, and there were NO bed-bugs or mice (unlike the Utopia or Hotel Jimmy, where I stayed the last couple of times I was Amsterdamned).

Good points: Cheap rates, friendly staff, good central location (on Singel canal), clean / tidy. Room could do with a TV though! Will definitely come here again next time I crash and burn in Amsterdamnation.
