Basic, low budget hostel. No nonsense.. Not the friendliest of staff, like they're doing you a favour to check you in and out, but overall if you need a form of bed and roof, this is just fine.

Their tongue-in-cheek advertising for "mediocre cheap" is pretty much spot on... Graffiti everywhere, not-so-clean bathrooms, dimly lit. Bar area served decently priced drinks, but not a lot of activities were organised by the hostel.

The rooms were very small and very basic amenities. Lockers very small and mine didn't lock properly. Some of my friends with bigger backpacks could not fit them in the lockers so had to leave them under their beds. Overall room seemed clean. A lot of young teenagers, super noisy.

On the plus side, their location was excellent and really easy to find. Lots of great coffee shops in the area. Very basic breakfast but not bad - cheese and jam on bread, come early if you want an egg.

This was the first hostel I had ever stayed in, so I was really apprehensive and the playful advertising that it is the "the worst hostel in the world" did not help. However, its cool if you are travelling in big groups for only a few nights. Would try to look for something better if I went there again.

I'm used to staying in 4-5 star hotels so this was a first for me staying in a hostel. I have to say I was quite hesitant but as it was a group trip I didn't have a choice.

The location is pretty good. The bedrooms were absolutely spotless clean. I dont know why people are complaining about bed bugs, I didn't see a single insect. Yes the pillows weren't the best but they did the job. For £11 a night I cant complain. The toilet and shower were fine, no smells or dirt. We were given toilet rolls and towels, but no toiletries. There is no maid service to change your towels or make up your room.

The staff were friendly and the club downstairs wasn't noisy at all, we didn't hear anything at night and slept like babies.

There were some broken lockers in the room.

The breakfast was terrible so bring/buy your own.

If your just looking for a place to sleep and shower, this is perfect, otherwise book a hotel.

Bottom line, I wouldnt hesitate to stay here again if I was travelling in a group.

Staying at the Hans Brinker Hostel was an experience I definitely could have gone without. I could have given up its great location easily. After the first night, I was suffering a total of 30 bed bug bites, as well as conjunctivitis from the pillow.
The 'restaurant' was poor. Breakfast was a piece of toast and everything else had to be paid for.
The staff were friendly enough and the bar reasonably priced.
I am sure that I could have had a much more enjoyable stay in Amsterdam. I will never be staying here again and I will be urging people not to use this accommodation.
