“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2011

No atmosphere from the minute you enter reception, My suggestion would be to play some nice music or light candles. Rooms were v old fashioned and poky. Communal toilet in hallway was similar to public toilet , needs a makeover. We were only served hot breakfast at weekend and were given cold breakfast during the week- not good enough ! Finally, we had to pay euros to store our luggage for 2 hours on day of checkout. I think this is a typical example of ripping off tourists! (even though we actually live in Amsterdam). On positive note, staff were friendly and nice quiet location.

First of all, it is a shame that some individuals do not have the decency, or maybe even the courage, to come out in the open personally and directly so that complaints can be taken care of by the department or person responsible.

My wife and I have been running Hotels & serveral apartments in Amsterdam for the last 26 years and it can be said that (unfortunately there are no exact figures available) most of our guests are very satisfied with the services we offer.

Our reception is bright and spacious, well-appointed with local information in a quiet and welcoming environment. We do use background music which may momentarily have been off when you arrived. Candles are strictly not permitted because of fire safety regulations. The reception area is very well-lit and has large windows for lots of natural light during the day.
Rooms have been remodelled to a high standard with modern décor and all rooms have private toiletry facilities. As all rooms have their own private facilities, the communal toilet is primarily for visitors to use if or for hotel guests who don’t wish to return to their rooms before going out or if they are returning to collect their luggage after having checked out already. It is cleaned daily and of a standard in keeping with our rating and reputation which the staff maintains for the benefit of all guests.

We serve a hot breakfast on weekends, and a full continental breakfast on quieter weekdays. From mid-March onwards we will serve a hot breakfast each day of the week.
When a guest checks out, we offer to safely secure their luggage at a small charge. They may then return later in the day or evening to collect their bags, knowing that they’re secured and ready to be collected. Guests tend to find this very useful as we can have their taxi arranged and waiting for them at the same time so they can leave immediately for the station or airport without delay.

“small rooms, but very clean. excellent location!”

Recently stayed in this hotel for three nights during January.
This came at a very affordable price, however, I was worried at some reviews I read. These turned out not to be true.
The room we stayed in was not spacious but was very clean all the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, literally 50m away from a frequent tram stop, and a very short journey into the centre of Amsterdam. There is also a complex of restaurants within a 15min walking distance of the hotel.
However, the walls are quite thin, and we could hear a bit from neighbouring rooms.
The hotel let us store our bags there, until our flight which was later on on our check out day, free of charge, contradicting other reviews.
Would definitely recommend this hotel, if you are looking value for money and cleanliness.

“Adorable hotel in the best area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2010

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Atlas hotel for 3 nights and payed about 200 euros (we got a special deal). The room we got was nice, it had three windows, but no balconies (which was a bit of an issue since my boyfriend needed somewhere to smoke). The room was very warm and cozy and perfect for hanging out after our long walks in the cold. It had a nice king size bed and a small sitting area. The decoration made the room look like more than 3 stars.
The only issue for us was the bathroom door. The bathroom itself was quite nice-it even had a bathtub and everthing looked perfectly clean. But the door was the sliding type and it didn't exactly close-it just covered the opening. You could basically flap it open if you pushed it from the bottom. So with minimum coverage it was kind of uncomfortable using he bathroom-but we found ways around that (like turning on the TV). It wasn't that bad in the end.
We didn't end up trying the breakfast, because we discovered a supermarket 5 minutes from the hotel, called Albert Heijn. It's a local branch. We found everthing we could possibly need for breakfast and lunch. It had sandwiches of all sorts and sizes, croissants, cinnamon rolls, cakes, bagels and all sorts of breads, pre-cut cheese and ham, pre-cut fruit and huge selection of juices. The hotel breakfast is 7.50 euros per person. We almost payed that much only on one day when we got way more than we managed to eat. So I would say try this grocery store!!!
The hotel staff are helpful, and especially this one girl who speaks perfect american. She helped us get rid of the extra fee from paying with a credit card, she was very willing to help no matter what we needed (she even searched the internet to find us the type of restaurant we were looking for when she didn't know herself). She definitely makes a difference!
I would recommend this hotel, but not for its full price-only if you get the deal.

“Fine Hotel, perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2010

Being at a very good location close to the Amsterdam City Center, this hotel can be the best place to spend your holiday in Amsterdam. You go out and walk 50 meters to reach the Tram Stop. Then you can go anywhere. Leidseplain, the most attractive region in Amsterdam, is just a few stops far. And the museum district is just 10 minutes away by walking. The hotel is just fine. I mean it is not a place for luxury seeking guys. But it is clean, the personel is helpful and friendly. To mention about some negative points, the noisy sanitary system can be one negative point. But overall, this hotel is a nice place to spend your holiday in Amsterdam. But be sure to confirm your reservation you made from HRS or somewhere else, since you may be told that the breakfast is not included even though you chose the fee with breakfast included. Though the hotel personel was so friendly to accept our reservation and didn't charge any breakfast bill.

“Suprisingly fine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

I booked this months before our trip based on it's location-not directly in the city center but close-and its somewhat affordable price. Since my booking was inexplicably non-refundable, I began to panic as my trip grew closer and the reviews of this hotel seemed to get worse and worse. However, upon arriving late at night, I found the room to be clean and just fine, the weird orange color of the walls notwithstanding, the bathroom was acceptable, the shower water pressure was a bit tricky, but nothing that bothered me, the room was cleaned and made up daily, the desk staff were very helpful and friendly and the outer door locked at night so we felt safe, though it is in a very nice neighborhood right by vondelpark. I was shocked that internet was not 12 euros per day, but 17 euros for five hours which were consecutive, so we could not leave the room for five house once we activated the wireless.
This was more than offset by the staff's willingness to let us do laundry in the hotel machines. I am certain that this is NOT a service they offer, but it was a great example of how hard the desk staff worked to keep the paying customers happy.
Overall my time at the Atlas hotel was comfortable and comforting and I would stay there again.
