“Fine for the price but take your bag with you!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2011

4 day conference requiring a fairly central not overly expensive hotel. For its purpose, the Atlas Hotel was fine.
Positives: Very easy to find and right next to the excellent Vondelpark with some useful cafes and restaurants nearby. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Everything in good working order. Generally very clean.

Negatives: Some profiteering here - 3 Euros to leave your bag after you checkout: a first for me. It doesn't even go into a locked room, it just gets bunged under the breakfast counter. Also 1 Euro for a city map - other hotels offer a free sponsored version. Breakfast is adequate but the breakfasting room is minute and the breakfasting hours minuscule (8-9.30). Essentially you'll be bumping elbows and dancing around other guests. The spread is no more than adequate Continental buffet. The decor is worn: shower curtain needs changing and the shower head descaling.

Room Tip: Don't go for the top floor rooms!

“Gem of Amsterdam - Super Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2011

What a perfect hotel loccted in the best area of Amsterdam. Turely great service by the staff and owner manager. They all went out of their way to service us and make our stay as comfortable as possible. We even got a complimentary breakfast though we had booked for room only.
We were with 3 couples and each of us had very different rooms as the rooms were all decorated in a different way in the hotel.
For all of us a definate must stay if you want to be in the best place in Amsterdam. We will be back soon after the this summer to enjoy Amsterdam and Atlas hotel once again.

“AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! - the ridiculously RUDE staff will ruin your trip”

I'm an avid traveler and an optimist so despite some of the bad reviews, I wanted to give it a chance. I have friends from all cultures and am very easy to get along with. I was in for the shock of my life at this hotel--- without exxageration----THE FRONT DESK STAFF (ESPECIALLY THE MANAGERS!!! AND "OWNERS" OF THE HOTEL) ARE SOME OF THE RUDEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER EVER EVER MET IN MY LIFE. I was hung up on simply for calling to ask a question about the room. When I figured this was an accident and called back a second time I was told quote that "I'm an idiot, should know this" and how much they would like me "not be a guest" at "her" ("Ms. Meheta" a.k.a. "the owner of this hotel" ) anymore. I was beyond baffled , and have yet to this day been so insulted on any of my travels. I will NEVER go to this hotel---and I don't encourage anyone who has even the most basic manners and sense of respect to do so either.

“Nice hotel with great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Atlas. I was a bit worried because of reviews I had read and lack of interior bedroom pictures, but we decided to go for it because of the great price. It turned out wonderfully! It is situated in a beautiful, quiet spot in Amsterdam near the museum district. It is easily accessible by the #2 tram, Jacob Obrechtstraat stop. (Please note that the directions on the website leading you to the Valeriusplein stop are inaccurate, don't get off there unless you feel like doing some walking!) Our double room was on the small side, but that is to be expected in Amsterdam, and it was never uncomfortable. The room was kept very clean and we had a window with a lovely view outside and a good sized closet. The water was always hot and there was a coffeemaker included in the room (although we never used it). Also included was a hair dryer, other reviews said that you could use it at a charge, but that must have changed recently. Breakfast and wifi were not included, but I signed up for wifi access thru KPN for about €25 for a week. And as far as breakfast goes, there are plenty of cafes you can hit up for what it would cost at the hotel. We usually picked some things up at Albert Heijn and that worked out nice and cheap. I definitely recommend the hotel and would happily stay there again in the future!

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2011

No atmosphere from the minute you enter reception, My suggestion would be to play some nice music or light candles. Rooms were v old fashioned and poky. Communal toilet in hallway was similar to public toilet , needs a makeover. We were only served hot breakfast at weekend and were given cold breakfast during the week- not good enough ! Finally, we had to pay euros to store our luggage for 2 hours on day of checkout. I think this is a typical example of ripping off tourists! (even though we actually live in Amsterdam). On positive note, staff were friendly and nice quiet location.

First of all, it is a shame that some individuals do not have the decency, or maybe even the courage, to come out in the open personally and directly so that complaints can be taken care of by the department or person responsible.

My wife and I have been running Hotels & serveral apartments in Amsterdam for the last 26 years and it can be said that (unfortunately there are no exact figures available) most of our guests are very satisfied with the services we offer.

Our reception is bright and spacious, well-appointed with local information in a quiet and welcoming environment. We do use background music which may momentarily have been off when you arrived. Candles are strictly not permitted because of fire safety regulations. The reception area is very well-lit and has large windows for lots of natural light during the day.
Rooms have been remodelled to a high standard with modern décor and all rooms have private toiletry facilities. As all rooms have their own private facilities, the communal toilet is primarily for visitors to use if or for hotel guests who don’t wish to return to their rooms before going out or if they are returning to collect their luggage after having checked out already. It is cleaned daily and of a standard in keeping with our rating and reputation which the staff maintains for the benefit of all guests.

We serve a hot breakfast on weekends, and a full continental breakfast on quieter weekdays. From mid-March onwards we will serve a hot breakfast each day of the week.
When a guest checks out, we offer to safely secure their luggage at a small charge. They may then return later in the day or evening to collect their bags, knowing that they’re secured and ready to be collected. Guests tend to find this very useful as we can have their taxi arranged and waiting for them at the same time so they can leave immediately for the station or airport without delay.
