when i 1st booked this hotel i was a little frighted about what i had just booked the pictures made it look like a right dump with the scary picture of the girl on the steps must have been took in 1994 so when i arrived i was surprised in a good way. the 1st thing you hit is the smell in the reception not so nice so maybe a little spray would do the job but the rooms a fine we were in a big room for 3 people which was right beside the lift but didnt hear a thing the beds were very good the only annoying thing was the church bell which went off every 15 minutes, the little sweets in reception were lovely a nice little touch the staff were very helpfull when we were leaving there was a very rude american guest who was going off at the man at reception about something that he had missed placed even at one point he started talking Spanish to him but the man behind the desk kept cool the whole time!
the best thing about Amsterdam is the train out of the city to the airport, oh and the new library very nice indeed and it sells lovely banana smoothies. i found Amsterdam a dirty whole and will never be back it has nothing to do apart from the things you have heard off. my eyes have been opened to sights i have never seen before. i thought there was bound to be more to the city than the 'dark' side but really it hasnt !!
if you want a central hotel the tulip inn is perfect, and the little dog outside that sits is soo friendly :)
