“Beautiful hotel overlooking canal”

Spent one night in the charming and traditional Ambassade in room 95 which I would thoroughly recommend. We had an amazing view of the Singel canal and the room had all the mod cons, and a lovely clean bathroom with Rituals toilettries.Service was extremely pleasant, and the public areas including the library were charming. The only downside was the warren of corridors and ups and downs we had to travel to get to our room (despite the lift).....it didn't bother us but I imagine it might not suit everyone. The hotel was also perfectly situated in Amsterdam for exploring the canals.

I would also recommend a to Koan Float which is a couple doors along from the hotel. My husband and I both enjoyed a 45 min massage for 50 euros (special price).

“Best Bed Ever”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I noticed another reviewer mentioned a saggy bed. Pity they didn’t have my room. The bed was unbelievable and colleagues travelling with me thought the same.
Reception: Excellent- Taken to my room and given history of hotel, it was a number of houses joined together, which explains why finding the rooms can be difficult.
Rooms- Lovely, spacious, quality fittings, warm, great bath and shower. Overall hard to fault.
Location- Short (3-4 min) walk to main shopping area so perfect location. The only problem I had was getting lost because the canals look so alike !! LOL.
My only negative was the breakfast was very expensive and not really worth it. Having said that, finding somewhere i Amsterdam that does an early breakfast wasn't easy so convenience was an issue. Overall this was a high quality hotel with professional staff.

“What a pitty; crammed room, saggy old beds, messy carpet, building work outside... But great location and (paid) breakfast.”

Invited my parents and must have got the oldest, smallest, darkest and crammiest room right under the creeking staircase with saggy beds and not enough room to even walk past another!

For that it is totally overpriced as the fab breakfast is extra anyway!

“Attractive and well located hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for one night in January 2012. We found the hotel itself to be extremely well located in a pleasant district (my husband is from Amsterdam, so I can say this with confidence), and within walking distance of the shops, museums and bars. Our room was beautifully decorated and modern, yet very cosy, not to mention spotlessly clean. The en-suite was modern and once again extremely clean. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, especially the gentleman that welcomed us upon our arrival.
All in all a reasonably priced and thoughtfully decorated hotel, I will definitely book again.

Room Tip: We used room 34, which was in the eaves of the building.

“Fantastic small hotel, great staff, in beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I just returned from a 2-night stay in Amsterdam with my wife and three children (ages 4-12). We had two rooms, both of which were very nicely furnished and perfectly clean and maintained--as was the rest of the hotel. I travel very frequently across Europe for business, and this hotel was as well-maintained as any 5* hotel I stay at. The front desk staff was perfectly helpful with advice and reservations. We stayed in rooms 95 (great view of canal, nice bright room) and 86 (nice room, bright enough but without the view). I will note than with a canal view you are able to hear a bit more of the activity of the city, but with a third-floor room it was hardly bothersome. Breakfast was very good (I thought it was a bit pricey at first, but after eating one breakfast off-property, I would say the hotel breakfast is a fairly good deal for Amsterdam). Location was very convenient to everything we wanted to see--an easy walk to the Anne Frank house, Van Gogh museum, city centre and shopping. I would highly recommend this hotel.
