I had the misfortune recently to stay here for nine nights. My company booked it primarily for its location, being a 5 minute walk to the Ajax Experience in Rembrandt splien, where i was working.Rokin is a main thoroughfare with trams, drunks, and an italian establishment that was noisy and stayed open until 3 in the morning. In addition to the trams and drunks, they are also building a metro line and construction starts at 7am.No A/C ,so you really had to leave the windows open to avoid suffocating in the small space. So far,so good, given room 202,opened the outward-opening door,if it was inward -opening it would have hit the bed.Wall light wasn't working but the small bedside one was,i discovered that there was no bulb in the first one.The room would have delighted a monk but it was a tad on the small side at 2:7m square. The en-suite was ok, but the loo roll holder was either too difficult ,or too time consuming to reload,so the loo roll was left balanced on top of it.(see photo). There was no sink plug either, this would make shaving quite an adventure, however a new one was fitted. The shower head had more water squirting backwards than was coming out of the front.A new one was procured at the front desk and i fitted it myself.Every night ,coming back here, was a voyage of discovery, some nights i got a towel and a bath mat, other nights ,i got one or the other! There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, the management clearly not wanting to encroach on the coffee shops territory! The breakfast room was ok with plentiful tea, coffee, eggs, rolls, cheeses and meats,no yoghurt or fruit though.Stair carpets were threadbare and the corridors were poorly lit, giving the place a gloomy, tired feeling.
On my last night,i was looking out my flight details and happened to look at page two of the booking.com papers and discovered that the company had booked me a twin room and the hotel had put me in the monks' cell single.I went down to the desk to quiz the man who had given me the room the previous saturday, and he gave me some story about the twin not being much bigger than the single and even showed me room pictures on the hotel web site,he did concede that i would have been more comfortable in the twin.My own fault for not looking at the booking properly, but i suspect that it was deliberate action by the hotel to extract as much as they could get for their tawdry rooms, as there was a big convention in town that weekend ,and as i was on my own ,they put me in a single to free up a twin.Shabby treatment, but no more than i would expect from this tired enterprise. It does have one redeeming feature and that is it's location.Avoid at all costs,oh yes,i forgot to mention the bedbugs ,but others before me have already pointed that out.Free wi-fi in reception only.Cost for 9 nights,on a sliding scale 499 euros on sat,139 on sunday,219 on monday,159 on tues,89 on wed,89 on thursday,149 on friday,189 on sat,and 89 on sunday, total 1621 Euros.
Room Tip: front facing rooms are noisy, but if you read the reviews it shouldn't be a problem.
