“Cosy home in Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2011

The Heemskerk is a small but comfortable hotel near the main museums in Amsterdam. It is some way out of the main central area, but that means the area is quiet and pleasant. As some earlier visitors have said, the hotel is small, but the website makes it clear when you book. It is also not an international chain hotel with 24 hour reception etc, but again, that is made clear on the website so you know what to expect.

The stairs are very steep, but this is common in Amsterdam buildings.

My room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay.

“The Heemskerk is vibin'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

Yeah, big up the Heemskerk, there this January, nice place, it is small, but they say that upfront, I stayed in the single for 3 days and the VSmall Double for 2, The staff are excellent, Norman was only there the 2nd time, but Nicholas helped with everything I needed. Good stuff, check the Cafe Lusthof for dinner, very near to De Graal c/s, HIGHly recommended.

“Intimidated and Scared!!!!”

it was clear that wI recently stayed at this hotel on a leisurely trip with friends for my birthday. I had very high expectations of this hotel after all the great reviews on trip advisor, however I was left bitterly dissappointed after the treatment myself and my friends recieved from the very nasty owner Normen, which was appualing. To begin with he insisted on per payment in full for the room before we even arrived, which is quite unusual considering you only pay a deposit in most hotels. Then on arrival e had been ripped off as this was meerly a standard B&B, and not a hotel as advertised!! The room was clean but very standard and very small for three people. We had pre booked breakfast for the first morning, but having arrived late the previous night we did not avail of the breakfast the next morning. On the night before we left we were acosted on our way out by the owner Normen, who we had only met for the first time that night. He verbally attacked us calling us all sorts of horrible things and basically claiming that we were trying to be underhand with him by not turning up for the breakfast on the first morning. I explained our situation to him, and also it did not state anywhere that we had to pay for a breakfast we had not eaten!! He became very aggressive, so we left to try enjoy what was left of our last night, and calmy told Normen we would sort it all at checkout. When we arrived back to our room that night, Normen had posted a very abusive and threating letter to our door...needless to say we had a very sleepless night!! On checkout he awaited at reception with many staff members...obviously again trying to intimidate us!! I calmly handed him the keys and told him again we would not be payin 12.50 euro each for a breakfast we had not eaten!! We began to leave and he again got very angry. The whole situation with this horrible nasty, upset us all very much and ruined which was a very enjoyable trip otherwise.

Well what to say about these 4 criminals? I had unfortunately in my hotel many trouble with this people. First they booked with a very cheap no refundable (that means the booking is payed immediately) and their card was fake, I waited politely around 10 days before they decided to pay the booking!!
Second, they booked a triple room and we discovered lately there was another extra girl hidden, we asked very politely to pay for an extra person and they replied very bad giving us a fake identity!
So instead to think we have been very polite in not calling the police they carry on writing several bad comment. Unbelievable! All the hotel are adviced to watch out for these irish girls!

“Small B&B, good for it kinds.”

I stay quite often in Amsterdam for business but now I came over to visit friends. Staying in the lovely Heemskerk hotel I felt sorry to hear that Normen, the owner, is changing his place into appartments. Beginning of February I stayed in the nearby Zandbergen hotel, a cosy and pleasant 3 star hotel, clean rooms, excellent and helpful staf, free internet and good value for your money. I learned to mail them direct for the best rate and one free drink!

“Horrible Experience”

I cannot put into words what a bad experience I have had at this hotel. All I can say is that it ruined my holiday and left me very upset and angry. I have read through some of the other reviews and any negatives are responded to by the owner Norman and the tone of each and every response is horrible. He clearly cannot take nay criticism what so ever. The ironic thing is that I work in a hotel myself as a hotel receptionist in a very prestigious hotel so I know what customer service is and frankly I received none of this during my stay at hotel Heemskerk!
