“Good Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

My Husband and I stayed at the Di Ann hotel in September 2011. I found it on Trip Advisor and reviews for it were average, not so wonderful but i took a chance anyways as it was in our budget and it was in a good location.

The hotel itself isn't bad, the staff were friendly and the hotel seemed pretty clean too. Yes the stairs are very steep but it didnt bother us as were only staying two nights and we hardly had any luggage.

My only complaint was our room. It was very run down. The bathroom was also a little special; the only thing that seperated the shower from the rest of the bathroom was what looked a kids shower curtain so everything got wet and the bathroom flower semi flooded. The TV also didnt work either, but it didnt really bother us. The room also had a musty smell, but again, we didnt spend much time in the room so it didnt bother us. The onky we did like about our room was the view, we just sat by the windows and enjoyed people watching.

I think we would stay there again, as the loaction was good (right round the corner from the Anne Frank House & Jordaan neighborhood).

I thinks it good if your not looking to spend much time in your room and plan on seeing Amsterdam all day. I also think it wasn't worth what we paid but oh well.

“Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Hotel Di-Ann is good value for money. The staff were friendly and all spoke good English. We paid 75 Euros a night, including breakfast; the room had it's own bathroom, and a fridge - for this price only 1.2kms from Amsterdam Centraal you can't complain.
A tip for those who travel with lots of luggage, don't stay here, the staircase is long, narrow and windy (typically Dutch!) and that's just to reception not your room!

Room Tip: Book a room that doesn't face the main street - it will be much quieter!

“Stay away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

We just spent 3 nights in this ugly hotel! Let me list only a few things here: 1. Reception is on the 2nd floor (no lifts) you have to climb it and it's an old A'Dam building so imagine those stairs! 2.We were given a room on top floor (yes more stairs) with 2 beds - specifically asked for a double bed- one bed falling apart, the other one with urine or whatever stains on the bottom bed cover (mattress protector?) 3. TV out due to problems with provider (no problems with TV in bfast room! though) 4. The only window in a room was a tiny one in the roof - no light and no views! 5. On the very last day we woke up to find out we had no water what-so-ever, so no shower etc just before the flight and after a late night out! brilliant! 6. On the way out receptionist stopped us asking for the payment (our card was charged for a full amount when we made online res. And it was NOT just a pre-authorization!) so we offered a payment with a debit card - believe it or not - credit card machine was broken! :) Oh, almost forgot to mention a hole in the ceiling with tonnes of cables etc sticking out just outside our doors and drilling after 11.30pm. Also one more thing - 4 Dutch men, some maintenance, came in just after everyone was gone from bfast room and the coffee they were given was actually of a better quality than the one served to the guests during bfast time! Can you believe it?! We felt very offended by that especially for the money we'd paid! Disgrace!
Well the only 1 positive is: good location.
Do not stay there, we've seen other rooms and they were all the same.

Room Tip: no room is good in this place

“Love/Hate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

I love the views from the balcony. I love watching the traffic go by and the crazy cyclists rushing around, there is something really nice about being in an oasis of calm while there is mayhem on the streets below. The room however was terrible. It stank of rotting meat, there was no TV and the leg had fallen off my bed. The mattress was also bigger than the base so I fell out the bed if I rolled too far to one side. I was weighing up how bad the room was and how nice the balcony is, I might even go back there and sleep on the balcony next time.

Room Tip: Get a balcony room!

“Worst hotel I ever stayed in - Di-Ann, Amsterdam”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

people found this review helpful

I climbed up the hotel double-height staircase with heavy case - steep as a ladder with narrow treads - to find the hotel cat playing with a live mouse in reception. When I pointed this out to the receptionist, his co-hort chased and crushed the mouse with a metal waste bin - and showed me the result. It got worse....My room was a small as a cupboard, the bed not made properly, badly lit and stuffy, the ceiling dirty-broken polystyrene tiles, the TV only switched on and off by putting the plug in and out; the bathroom was dirty - basin, tiles, loo pan - and it stank to high heaven of old urine. I was unable to change rooms as the "hotel"(a misnomer if ever there was one...) was full. I was unable to use the bathroom apart from a quick pee: even the plughole stank of urine and cleaning my teeth made me retch. On the second day the bed was not made at all and I assume no-one even came into the room. Breakfast was very mediocre: cornflakes were available but no sugar to put on them; the queue for the ancient toaster went across the room; plastic meat and cheese looked completely unappetising. The coffee was undrinkable...
What else? Well - the location is great and I guess that is the sole reason the place survives. But please - don't even think of going there...

Room Tip: I am not at all sure there is a 'good' room in this place.
