“Beware. Men enter your room at night!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My wife and I stayed in the hotel for her birthday weekend...We arrived at 1am and were directed to our 'superior' room. The room was comfortable if a little pretentious in the urban wing... Could have killed for more light!..placed the do not disturb sign on the door and went to bed...At 2.30am a man entered our room without knocking and absolutely terrified us!...he said he was security and apologized. I can only assume he was attempting to let someone in their room and he thought it was ours!?!...anyway this totally ruined our break and neither of us could relax at the hotel.. Totally unacceptable...I spoke to the front desk the day later but I just got a blank look...Trust me, I did not dream the event. Room wast cleaned at all over the three days, nor was the tea/coffee replenished. As it goes the hotel is very central just across the road from the train station....Didn't eat there (If I wanted to pay 30 Euros for a breakfast I would like the dutch beach volleyball team to serve it!). there's a MacDonalds just around the corner, there's also a pasta bar 50 yard down the road that'll do a full English for 4.95.. This place has so much potential, it is just a crying shame that we didn't get to see it.....Amsterdam is such a beautiful city..and deserves better!.....

Dear Taffmorris555,

I was dismayed to read your review regarding your recent stay with us. After your review I immediately contacted the Chief Security to see what has happened during you first night. Our security officer was investigating an alarm and he did came into the room. According to him, he did knock as this is a standard procedure and we take this very seriously. For us, security and safety of our guests and employees is top priority and we do apologies for this unfortunate event and that you did not feel safe.

The issue that our front office employee did not act accordingly by calling the manager on duty is another problem we do thake very seriously. I have forwarded this issuse to the departments involved and also on behalf of them, our sincere apologies.

If you are planning another trip to Amsterdam in the future, please contact me directly to see what we can do for you regarding the inconvenience of your last stay.

Best regards,

“Aggressive management PLS READ & poor quality rooms”

We picked this hotel as it was central to transport links for a 5 day conference. We are both professional people & travel many hotels & to AMS pretty much every month however
I WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!
We checked in & was given our room key for the next 5 days, the room had a strong odour of stale cigarettes, I rang reception who changed our room to the Urban suite. The suite is too dark & difficult to get ready, it is several lifts & stairs away from the exit of the hotel & the kettle was disgusting I really do think someone urinated in it. Housekeeping changed the kettle & agreed it had a bad smell!! Our room was not cleaned for the entire time we stayed there, i am not sure if they just missed us from the rota & as we out during the days, I had to ring reception for fresh towels & milk etc on day 3 but still no cleaning!! During our stay all front desk staff we nice & helpful but upon check out we were told the manager wanted to speak with us. we were confronted by Christina B (who is actually only the Human resources manager ) & her part time security officers. They claimed we had left biscuit crumbs on the floor, maybe smoked??!! & the room was in such a mess that they wanted to charge us 300euro for additional cleaning, huh maybe the bins were full because our room was never cleaned, my wife & i were outraged at her accusations that we lived in a her words "nasty " way. We felt very intimidated by the approach & my wife was shocked with her attitude & lack of class. They could not charge as nothing, we completely refused nothing was damaged, nothing was moved about, no one had smoked in fact the room was fine apart from it looked like someone had stayed there 5 days without a cleaner & for this they ruined our time away & made us feel threatened, confused & unhappy after spending nearly £1,000.00 with Park Plaza Victoria, well done !

YOU WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN T.REX!

In relation to the monstrous remarks posted recently by Rex, let me assure him and anyone else who is intent on completely trashing a room, that there is no place for you here!

If anyone reading this would like to see the photographic evidence of the way our “so-called guest” left his sleeping quarters then we will gladly reveal all!

Thankfully, the vast majority of our guests are respectful of the high standards we endeavour to maintain. Sadly however, there is no accounting for poor taste and outrageously bad behaviour, which runs against the grain of all human decency.

Sincerely Yours,

“Good location wrong Hotel”

The location is excellent, it was a shame about the room though as it was very dark and dreary, not at all what the Web pages had shown, we had booked a Superior room which this most definitely was not.
We loved Amsterdam, can recommend the De Prins eetcafe on the Princengracht it is wonderful ,with lovely home made foods, recommend the soups, especially pea & ham,
Train service is excellent from Schipol Aiport 15 mins Central Station.

“Friendly, well run, clean and well placed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Arrived on a 3 day Business trip, this is my second stay at the hotel, both experiences have been good. The staff were friendly efficient and helpful. The hotel has a very good quality bistro type restaurant that does some very nice food. It has a separate bar area, an internet room and large waiting area away from the front desk.
The hotel has over 300 bedrooms. The one I had was spacious well appointed, clean and comfortable with 3 easy chairs, a work area with high speed broadband at E4.50 a day or free Wifi for the casual user. The room had a 32" HD Phillips TV with multiple channels some in HD including UK bbc, itv and Ch4.
Breakfast was a well presented buffet style with a large choice to suit all needs. There is a cab rank outside the front and the main subway and train station is only 100 yards away (No noise heard from room). Water taxi's are 50 yards away and the tram station about the same distance. This is a good hotel in a central area close to amenities and attractions. I would stay here again.
Taxi's are quite expensive and the drivers only seem to know all the long routes? In contrast a Tram costs E2.50 from Central Station along Damrak as for as The Heineken Brewery at Weteringlaan a journey of about 4km.
For those visiting Amsterdam for the first time the train runs from Schipol airport every 15 minutes takes about 20 -25 mins and costs around E4.30 and well worth doing.
For a day out the hop on hop off bus tour for E18.00 is worth the experience. Most of the canals were frozen over when I was there and skaters could be seen all times of day and night. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: Inside rooms facing the court yard poor view but very quiet.

“Snow outside, warm inside.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I really enjoyed my 5 days in snowy Amsterdam at this hotel. The concierge were fantastic organising restaurant bookings and other things.
Strangely though, three mornings (out of five) I asked the waiter for fried eggs and ham and on two occasions got an omlette instead. Nothing really to complain about as the omlette was delicious, maybe just a communication issue with the waitstaff?
The urban room was great, take advantage of the "upgrade at check in" if it's offered.
Take the train from Schiphol, the hotel is right across the road from the station.
