I have stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Amsterdam on two different occaisions. I find the hotel to be a great "safe haven" or "home base" in the midst of the delightful chaos that is Amsterdam. if you can manage to avoid being run down by the miriad bicycles, trains, buses, cars and other pedestrians, the hotel is an easy 5 minute walk from the Amsterdam Central Train Station. This station is easily reached from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport via an 18 minute ride with no change of trains. Cost was about EU$4.50 one way. As others have mentioned, the hotel is within easy walking distance of many of Amsterdam's famous tourist attractions, restaurants, bars, coffee shops and a thousand other diversions that will not be soon forgotten. Also, catching a bus, train or canal boat virtually right outside the hotel is convenient and a highly recommended way to explore the city. The concierge can provide assistance with tickets, directions and advice. The hotel itself is very nice with modern furnishings in the lobby and the guest rooms. The rooms have more of an American feel to them than most hotels that I know in Europe and are very clean and comfortable. The only notable exception was the shower controls (good luck!). There is a steep charge for high speed internet access: EU$20 per day or EU$15 per day for Priority Club members. Overall, this is a typical Crowne Plaza and will not disappoint frequent guests of that chain.
