“dave& sue sprason- brilliant staff nothing too much trouble”

my husband and i often go to amsterdam and stay at differant hotels but this one was by far the most welcoming. the first room we were given was too small so the desk changed it later that evening, no problem. 2nd rm brilliant . staff were extremely polite and showed how to get about in amsterdam tram tickets etc when the staff found out it was our wedding anniversary two free glasses of chgampagne were immediately ordered. the young man in the bar was very interesting and told us all about local buildings the palace over the road the churches and the history of the hotel etc he was very proud to share his knowledge of his home town! even though we only stayed 4 days the staff greeted us like old friends every time we came and went from the hotel asked us if we were having a good day and were we were going that night. would definately stay here again but would ask for a front room as it was bigger.

Room Tip: ask to see room before checking in and if not right request another. be polite to the staff and they...

“Ideally located in the heart of the entertainment area and 5min walk from Central Station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

This 4 star hotel is ideally located within easy walking distance from the Central Station and the vibrant nightlife. The Magna Plaza, a mall, is next door. Not great shopping, boutique stores. The rooms are a decent size, bathrooms small but clean. The hotel is quaint and was the site of the original Heineken brewery! The trams make all the neighbourhoods of Amsterdam easily accessible. The breakfasts were nice as well, in terms of variety and quality.
The morning we were leaving we took the 6:30 am airport shuttle (16 euros). Breakfast started at 6:30 am. We were down by 6am and at about 6:10, we asked if we could get some juice and pastries or something. The lady in the restaurant rudely told us no, and we had paid for breakfast.
From the airport to the hotel, we took the train, to Central Station (4 euros) and we took the number 5 tram which stopped right outside the hotel, it's the Dam square stop. If u r considering using the train, travel light.

booked hotel in advance was warned by a friend I would be given a smaller out of the way room because I am american and true to form thet put me in a tiny room that was an obstacle course to get to I returned with my luggage to the front desk to request a larger room was told it would cost more and also now I could not check in early so I had to hang around for 4 hours to avoid another nights billing for checking in early .The last evening of my stay I ordered from hotel restuarant The steak was highly recomended( It was possibly the worst steak I had ever paid for ) 2 of the wait staff showed up and While one distracted me the other stoled some euro, medicine and personal Items from my room

Room Tip: not worth staying un less you get room facing the square dont eat from resturaunt

“Didn't Even Make it Past the Front Desk”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

My buddy and I found ourselves in Amsterdam for a few days, and were looking for a place to stay. We are both members of the Canadian Forces and were on our Christmas leave. The location of the hotel attracted us first, as well did the outward appearance. However, once at the front desk we were turned off almost immediately. A simple inquiry about pricing and the possibility of a military discount was met with a hostile and undermining attitude. We were told that, "Discounts are unusual in the Netherlands, and maybe we should look in Canada if we want a military discount." We said thank you and left immediately after that. Perhaps our hiking jackets and jeans made us look a little too cheap for his tastes. I will never even think about going there again. The next hotel we called and the one we ultimately stayed at, Hotel Arena, offered us a sizable government discount and ended up being an awesome stay.
