“Perfect location!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2012 NEW via mobile

I stayed Here for two nights and everything was ok- we got the standard room (small but as we just wanted somewhere to sleep it was perfect) staff friendly- the best of the hotel was the location!! Minutes away from centraal station and close to every main attractions - I would recommend it for a weekend break

“You pay for the location - and it being good depends..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2012 NEW

The Exhange is nicely sort of hidden as it only has a small door on the very busy Damrak. It being on Damrak is a blessing and a curse. Everything is at hand when you step outside, but you get all the noise that comes with it. If you plan to hit the bars a lot then I guess the location is spot on. Otherwise, pick a more peaceful area.

The rooms are quirky indeed, but badly lacking amenities such as fridges or air condition. Both are huge drawbacks in my book. The hotel does not offer any breakfast, so without a fridge you always leave hungry in the morning.

The upper story rooms have a nice view over the roofs around the building. Our room had not one but two balconies.

“Unbelievably poor value...and I have stayed in other properties throughout AMS”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2012 NEW

Let me first qualify this by stating I have stayed at properties throughout Amsterdam and this is by far the worst value I have ever come across. The only thing going for it is the location which is near Centraal Station.

Some call this an "art" hotel but let me be blunt here. The walls are all marked up fiberboard so they likely took an open space and carved out little rooms (and when I say little this isn't overly dramatic). Inside the fiberglass cubicles you will find, according to them, a one-of-a-kind room made by an artist. I don't think the artist made it to my room as it is stark minimalist except for a table that came from a garage sale and is impossible to do anything on due to it wobbling. Then there are the walls that are all scoffed up from other travelers.....think about how easy it is to scoff up fiberboard. The bathroom is mis-configured. I am a short guy and have to sit completely side-ways on the toilet as the sink is right there....if you are in anyway taller than 5'7 or over 170 pounds you are likely going to have to use a public bathroom somewhere. The public spaces are just junky and undone. Each floor there is housekeeping sheets/towels stored out in the open.

I stayed here three days in May...the third night of my stay was 212.00US plus city tax. I cannot recall at anytime in my travels that I have felt so vastly ripped off as with this fiberglass make-shift hotel.....I feel as if they can pack up the hotel in a couple of yours, just like a carnival, and move it elsewhere....it is that cheap looking/feeling.

Stay away if you can....and if you are a smoker, forget it. You have to go downstairs (elevator is usually too slow to use) and then go outside...but then you have outdoor restaurants there so you have to walk a bit before you have space to light up.

Room Tip: Tip....don't stay here. if my room is any indication of the other rooms you are being taken for...

“HOW CAN YOU CONSIDER IT AN HOTEL?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2012

It is not an hotel. The room (130 €/night - breakfast not included) was so small with the bed not even as long as to be able to sleep (set between two walls). The bathroom was 2 smq.
Over-priced.

“Great location, great hotel at a great rate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2012

Can't fault this hotel. Clean, nice staff and new refurb hotel. 5 minutes from the main station and lots of late night eateries outside
