“Excellent B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

My husband and I visited the B&B after Christmas with our two daughters (11 and 8). Alex, our host, was simply wonderful! She was very friendly - in particular, our girls engaged with her immediately and she even let them help her in the kitchen. The rooms are large and bright, the beds are very comfortable, and the premises are very clean. Our room was very well equipped with a coffee, tea, wine, and even nuts and fruit. From the house, we were able to walk into town to visit the Van Gogh and the Rijks museums. The tram is also very conveniently located. All and all, a wonderful visit. We certainly recommend and will return ourselves if we are again in Amsterdam.

“Great B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2010

The second time we've visited Amsterdam and chosen this Bed&Breakfast.

Very nice hosts, a familiar atmosphere and a very good, lavish breakfast.

The rooms are big, equipped with the best beds in whole Amsterdam (2.20m length), flatscreen TV, full broadband internet (for free).

The bathroom is clean, functional in every way and the view out of the front windows great (directly toward the well-known A'dam canals).

The hosts are very nice and helpful in every way, doesn't matter if it's for questions regarding the city, the public transport, outlet shopping or cooking.

Next stop in Amsterdam will be planned with a stop at the Transvaalkade ;-)

Thanks again for this wonderful stay in Amsterdam.

“Top-quality bed and breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2010

The proprietor runs a first-rate bed and breakfast inn! The rooms are clean, comfortable and well-appointed. The breakfast is great and the hospitality is warm and friendly.

The proprietor knows the region well and provides helpful tourist guidance.

The B&B is located in a nice area of the city, close to transit and good local restaurants. The location is a safe, quiet residential area, but is conveniently located in close proximity to downtown and Amsterdam's many attractions.

I highly recommend this B&B!

“Very friendly and helpful hosts, delicious breakfast and very clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

We stayed at De Vliegende Kok during Amsterdam marathon. Our host Alexandra was very friendly and helpful in all respect. Myn husband was running the marathon and she proposed to cook the breakfast to satisfy his needs, and also he was allowed to take a shower after the marathon although we had checked out. Everything very clean and nice. The only thing was that the room was a bit cold, and we could not get the heating to work during the day.

“Misleading website - an unaccomodating owner”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

Dissapointingly - we have NOT stayed at De Vliegende Kok, but were very excited upon finding it online and infact cancelled another hotel we had previously booked so that we could book a stay here.

The website has an odd booking system whereby you pay for a room without specifying which night you want to stay, and then email the staff.

My partner and I are planning a trip to amsterdam but only an overnight stay - however I wanted it to be a special stay and this place looked (by the website) to be such a place.

However, upon already paying, and emailing to get the room (which the website said was available that day), I was informed by the owner that we could only stay a minimum of two nights.

For a Bed and Breakfast this is a bizarre specification, and the website DOES NOT specify this. I was very very dissapointed by this and replied with a message asking if they could make an exception since we had booked their most expensive room and midweek. I received no further response and only a refund of my payment.

I thought that this inability to compromise and accomodate a willing, paying customer, poor customer service and gave the impression of a very snooty establishment. I am thoroughy dissapointed and warn people that their website does not specify this and to take note before paying for a room.

These are the facts: our bookingprocedures is like this: A request is made by a guest. Than we respond if the room is still available (our website is updated once a day) because during the day availability may change. After our confirmation payment can be made by bank or Paypal.

In this case the payment was made without our confirmation. Within 24 hours we transferred the payment back to this custumer without any cost. We already apoligized for the inconvience.
We did change the website, so the payment now cannot be made without our confirmation.
