Location: B&B situated app 700-800 m from the Centraal Station in Amsterdam, in a truly beautiful 17th c. Dutch house in a nice quiet street overlooking one of the canals. 5-10 min walk to the Nieuwmarkt or 15-20 min walk to the Dam where you can catch several tram lines.
Cleanliness: Quite ok
Service: OK, but nothing more. There was virtually no sign or plaque indicating that this is a B&B, at first I thought I got the wrong address. There was no one to open the door on my arrival (they were informed of my arrival time in advance) so luckily I managed to find the owner's cell no. in my bag. After I explained that I'm standing in front of the door he came by in a matter of minutes and fortunately offered to carry my bag over 3 or 4 flights of very steep stairs. I'm really not sure that I'd managed to carry it myself (the bag was modest size and weight but the stairs are 'traditional' Dutch, meaning really really steep). The room was big but the beds weren’t overly comfortable, they were ok.
Although common areas are very nice and beautifully decorated, the room furniture is a bit on the cheap side. WC (without hand washing basin) was shared by two rooms, while the bathroom (one floor below) was shared by several rooms which sometimes made it hard to access (especially in the mornings). Aside from being steep, the stairs were also very noisy so you really couldn't help hearing late arrivals or early birds up and down the stairs.
On our last day before we checked-out, I was quite disappointed to discover that there were absolutely no possibilities for luggage storage although the booking site through which a reservation was made lists Luggage Storage as one of the hotel facilities. As I had a late flight there was no other option but to sit in a close by restaurant garden for 3-4 hours before heading out to the airport. That kind of ruined my last day in Amsterdam and I'm sure wouldn't be that complicated to arrange. Also, being a smoker (not very popular I know) I specifically looked for accommodation that would at least have a designated smoking area on the property, and again on the booking site, under Hotel Facilities it lists: Designated Smoking Area. And you’re guessing – there’s no designated smoking area in this B&B. Regardless of whose fault these non-existing facilities are (the booking site or the owner) it would be nice to make an effort and correct them so that one can plan accordingly.
PS They have the friendliest cutest dog that just loves being pet.
