Thanks to Tarif for making our stay enjoyable. This pension is easily accessible from all parts of Amsterdam. The room is compact but it is clean and very comfortable, all we needed after arriving following a boat trip along the Danube and Rhine Rivers. It is close to the city centre and we ended up walking and walking and walking around the city. Nearby are supermarkets, a decent Indonesian-style restaurant, and some great little bars where the odd beer or three could be enjoyed.

The room is located in the Jordaan area of Amsterdam which is quieter than being in the centre of town and is quite beautiful. Though you are out of the centre, the Anne Frank house is only a few minutes walk away and you can get to the museums within about 10 minutes. My boyfriend and I bought 96 hour tickets from the transport place next to the tourist information at Centraal Station and got the tram everywhere which made sightseeing much quicker and easier.

On arrival, we were welcomed by the owner of the property and were immediately made to feel at home! We had a lovely (and ample) breakfast served to us in the room on the first day which was a superb start to our trip. The room itself is small but you should think of it as a room in someones home as opposed to a hotel room which is exactly what it is. Having said that, it is more than big enough for a couple and it is beautifully decorated and wonderfully clean. You also get your own key to your own door and are left to your own devices so that you can holiday independently.
You also have full access to a computer with internet, which is free and very useful for checking up on tourist attractions or your flight times.
If you wish to save money, there is a breakfast bar with tea and coffee facilities and a fridge in the room so you can stock up on food at the local supermarket (a few mins away) and enjoy breakfast at your leisure.

I would definitely recommend this place for a couple travelling on a budget but who don't wish to share a bedroom and/or bathroom with 6 other people!!

Stayed here with my boyfriend during European travels. For the price of a hostel, you can have your own room and private entrance. Close to everything. Own bathroom. Wonderful find!

We spent 3 nights in the cozy Pension De Laurier located just off Prinsengracht, in the Jordaan area of Amsterdam.

- Pension De Laurier is an ensuite room attached to the owners residence, with it's own front door .Great for travellers who like their independence.

- It has a small breakfast area with a kettle for making lovely hot steaming cups of tea and coffee with a ready supply of tea and coffee from the owners.

- A computer with internet is provided at no extra charge for guests. This was most welcome as I could keep an eye on TA and also check out the local pages from the Amsterdam tourist site :-)

- The toilet area and shower whilst spotlessly clean,is very small, so if you have had a fondness for doughnuts or are a very tall person then you may find a problem with space in the toilet area.

- The small residential street of laurierdwarsstraat is just off Prinsengracht and there is a pretty canal just beside Pension De Laurier. I'm sure it's beautiful in the Summertime.
It was only a 10 minute walk to the nearest tram stop at Westermarktt and catching the 13 or 17 will bring you to Central Station. The Anne Frank house is also only 10 minutes walk along Prinsengracht, near the Westermarktt tram stop. This was very handy as we only had to walk up after breakfast which enabled us to gain entry straight away and avoid the crowds which began to build after an hour.

- The location was superb, the room cozy and spotless, the owner helpful and welcoming and we would stay again. Ideal for couples as a base for sightseeing and who like to travel independently on a budget :-)
