I've been to Amsterdam a few times in recent years and if you're looking for somewhere affordable, in a good location and clean then this is the place for you. I will say now there are very steep steps, so if that's a problem please don't book, but everything else is pretty much perfect.

The staff are very friendly and helpful (let us leave bags on day of departure and arrival until room was ready).

The cost is the same per person as a dirty hostel in the red light district, but instead of a stained mattress crammed into a rat-infested hole you get a spacious double bed, cool music-themed furniture including ipod speakers and clean sheets.

Some people have complained about noise but the windows are good quality so I didn't have any problems with trams outside.

The location is about 15 minute walk from the RLD and centre, but there are many restaurants and shops in the local area (including coffee shops).

The hotel is also close to the Van Gogh and Rembrandt museums, the Heineken Experience and Anne Frank house, as well as canal boat tour points.

I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Amsterdam

we were in the hotel for the weekend, and we were really happy with how close it is to bars/clubs (like 3 mins walk from Melkweg). the concept is very cool and even the most basic rooms are with the decorative items like drum lamps and the make up mirror.
i would recommend for any group of friends travelling there!

I stayed here with 3 other girls for a girly weekend! We thought it was brilliant. Great location, very near pubs, cafe's, resturants and clubs. Lovely at xmas time too! Comfy beds and spacious rooms! The only downside is that ther stairs are very steep, not good in high heels!

I were in Amsterdam this weekend and spend my night at The Backstage Hotel. I did not had so much expectations because the two stars rating, but the hotel, staff, experience, rooms common area, bar, breakfast and location blew me away. Everything was awesome and the visit in Amsterdam was just because the nice living worth every penny. The price was absolutely decent for a big city for the rooms and for the environment. I will definitely visit Amsterdam and Backstage again. Keep the music loud guys!
