“It has a roof thats about it !”

We have stayed in Amsterdam several times. We have no problem with basic accomodation but this hotel would be hard pushed to merit 1 star. Downtrodden, shabby. We were given 1 towel each and this had to last us 4 days.1 hanger which was broken, a remote control that didnt work.Carpet torn which since this was on the top stair on the top floor could have proved a disaster.

Booked via late rooms who are usually good however
1) Credit card used in fraud in Holland just after booked this hotel ( coincidence ??)
2) Tried to charge extra 'Taxes' on arrival spent 30 mins on phone to resolve to laterooms !!
3) Then informed us they over booked so bumped onto hotel without ensuite facilities !

“Hotel experience of a lifetime”

On arrival one is greeted with horrible tired stained dirty threadbare torn red carpet. There is a stale smell filtering from inside front door to top floor landing. On opening hotel room door one is also greeted with the same smell. Overhead lights above bed not working. In one wall was large hole filled only with toilet paper. One of the divan was badly soiled and both beds had threadbare sheets. Towels were changed once only during five night stay and only one small hand towel was provided for each person. The hotel was inadequately soundproofed for example you could clearly hear people talking and even snoring from the next room. The television from next room was as clear as if it was in your own room. When guests arrived back at night one was woken up from footsteps coming upstairs that were not soundproofed correctly. There was no fire extinguishers through stairs or in rooms. No tea making facilities were provided.

“it ruined our holidays”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2010

we first arrived at the iris hotel, for a problem of reservation, we called the hotel 2 days before to change the reservation for 1 day, we stayed 2 days. the guy who answer said: yeah no problem, we are going to change that don't worry. we go to the hotel and the same gauy who answered on the telephone said: no, we didn't receiveid the mail, it was'nt me on the phone you must be mistaking. so, because we got no choice we had to pay for a day we weren't there, a day we were there and an other day much more expensive (he changed the price in the paper you don't know why you pay 100 euro instead of the 73 euro written on the paper) they so we didn't have choice, so we paid that. we arrived on the room, remote controle didn't worked, there were only cold water in the shower (during christmas holiday it's very funny). fortunetely, amsterdam is amazing, coolest city ever, people are so nice (except when they have an hotel). and then we try the breakfast and we can say that the breakfast. i think they tried to kill us, in my hole life, and i'm french, i didn't someting that disgusting, you just have marmelade, plastic cheese with no taste, and the same for the meat, and when it's 11.00 pm the guy who take care of the breakfast yell on you: no, it's finish i won't clean doesn't sympatic at all.

so if you wanna spend some great holidays, don't go to the iris hotel (or the max hotel, it's the same thing).
