Myself and three friends spent two nights at the Flying Monkey late in October 2011. We were able to check in early after arriving in Amsterdam from the Europoort late morning. Maya was extremely friendly and provided maps and local knowledge of places to visit and things to do. The apartment was plenty big with two single beds and and two double sofa beds and therefore suitable for most combinations. The place was clean and tidy and things like irons and hair dryers were provided including a TV and DVDs to watch (we didn't get chance to watch any TV!). Tea/Coffee etc. were provided and fresh clean bedding and towels were included also. Overall, I would recommend this place to everybody (although the stairs may limit some, they are steep but fun) because the relative cost compared to competing places and the location are superb. Very happy!

stumbled on this place by accident, so close to station and red light district nice owners the stairs really need to be seen to be believed way steeper than any others iv encountered in the dam!!! stay here its so easy and relaxed

My friends and I stayed at the Flying Monkey #3 for 3 nights in June 2011. The apartment is in an excellent location, less than 5 minute walk from Centraal Station and a 5-10 minute walk to the Red Light District/Nieumarkt areas so everything is within an easy reach.

The apartment was easy to find and the hostess Maya met us at the door. The stairs are very steep, this is mentioned when booking and is a common occurence with many old buildings in Amsterdam. You have to climb/descend them to appreciate how steep but we found that it became easier with every trip up and down (even in a less-than-sober-state)!!!

The room was spacious, 2 beds and 2 sofabeds, kitchen complete with goodies from previous guests, TV/DVD with DVD's, bathroom clean and tidy with some toiletries if needed, smoking apparatus ;) and a great view out the window looking over towards the NEMO science mueseum and the new Oosterdok development.

For a trip with friends, this is an ideal place to stay, close to all amenities but away from the noise of the tourist areas. This by no means a 5 star hotel, but a comfortable, affordable and enjoyable place to stay. Looking forward to booking next years trip now!

This was my 3rd trip to Amsterdam with my friends! I have stayed in many different places but the flying monkey was from far the best! If you are looking for a place:
- close to the station (so that you don't carry your bags all around the city),
- close to Dam square (city centre)
- and especially close to any coffee shop, well that is the place you're looking for to enjoy some time with your friends.
Most important of all: the hostess!! Maya is a sweetheart who really cares about the comfort and the well-being of her guests. She was extremely helpful and was able to answer any questions we had always with a smile on her face!

Only "bad" point would be the stairs... But to be honest, everywhere I stayed in Dam had exactly the same kind of staircase, so not much of a big deal afterwards..
